When you talk about “hair transformations” somehow blonde quickly comes to mind. There’s nothing quite like bleaching your tresses to give yourself a totally new look—especially if you’re current ‘do is a basic brown shade.
Though going blonde is a lot of fun, there’s a lot to think about when it comes to maintaining this stunning color. Not to mention, it takes more than one bleaching session to get that covetable shade of blonde you’ve been seeing all over Instagram. We’re talking about this particular shade that’s an easy favorite of influencers and celebrities: light blonde.
But, what is Light Blonde Hair exactly?
There’s blonde—a yellowish shade or in hairstylist terms is a level 9-10 pale yellow—then there’s light blonde. Basically, this color is anything on the light-hued color spectrum of blonde and encompasses all the fair and ash shades, too.
How can I get light blonde hair?
According to expert colorist Fendi of Nue Studio salon (aka @fendidudi on Instagram), you can go blonde just after one salon sesh. “The bleaching session all depends on the hair strength and condition. If the hair was rebonded, permed, or had a harsh bleach application beforehand, I don’t recommend doing the color. But if the hair is in good condition, I can achieve the pale yellow in one application avoiding the damage or even drying out the hair,” he tells Cosmo.ph.
But to be completely honest, getting the right yellow shade is easier said than done because Pinay’s have naturally dark hair. “It’s tricky and it could cause damage and dryness to achieve the level 9-10 [blonde shade], if the stylist doesn’t have enough experience or knowledge on how to achieve this particular shade of blonde.”
How do I maintain light blonde hair?
Like any other hair color that requires pre-lightening or bleaching, the upkeep is no joke! That means be prepared to buy the right products to keep your color as fresh and your hair as healthy pre-bleach. “Buy a good shampoo from your salon and follow the stylist's honest advice regarding the products,” Fendi shares. “Shampoo every other day, too!”
“Regarding treatment, I recommend visiting the salon once a week for deep [conditioning] treatment if you’re willing to keep your blonde hair in great condition. This is also to maintain the perfect shine and bounce. If you have no time [to go to the salon weekly], a good quality [home] treatment every three days done the right way will help. I also advise my clients how to do the application at home,” the stylist advises.
