Many have moved on to using electric styling tools, but Heart Evangelista is making a case for going old school. In her latest Instagram Reel, the actress and style influencer uses three hair rollers to achieve an effortlessly tousled look. Some of her followers are suggesting that she try the Dyson Airwrap (which costs around P33,000, nbd), but others are looking to follow in her footsteps.

What are hair rollers?
...and why is it still Heart’s fave? More than just a way to give life to limp manes, hair rollers are very versatile hair styling tools. These cylindrical tools are typically made of plastic and are a heatless alternative if you’re wary of hot iron curlers.
Maybe you want that Victoria Secret bombshell blowout look for your tresses or maybe you’d like to add a lil’ bit of oomph to your bangs? Hair rollers come in all sizes so you can achieve diff kinds of styles in one session without any fuss or stress.
If you want to go old-school just like Heart, here’s how you can achieve the same hairstyle.
A basic guide to using hair rollers
Getting into hair rollers may look like a lot of work, but these are very easy to use once you get the hang of it.
Brush out your hair before anything.
The secret to a good curled ‘do is starting with a smooth, dry base. Why though? It’s pretty simple: removing tangles makes it easy for the rollers’ bristles to catch every strand of hair. We want it to look very intentional—very mindful and cutesy, if you will.
Divide and conquer.
Next, part your hair into sections. You want to create layers—top, middle, and bottom—that’ll add movement and volume to your mane. Use clips to keep other sections in place as you roll. You can use the same clips to keep the rollers in place as you style the other sections.
Use the right size of rollers.
When it comes to hair rollers, size does matter (*wink wink*). If you want big, bouncy, beachy curls or have longer hair, a larger-sized two-inch hair roller will be your best friend. But if you want tighter curls or just a little bit of volume, then smaller hair rollers will suit your needs.

Placement is key.
Take a cue from Heart: placing hair rollers parallel to your hair part will add a lot of height and volume to the hair on the crown of your head. This avoids leaving that M-shaped hair part and makes your hairstyle look stylishly disheveled.
Add some tension.
When putting on your hair rollers, ensure that the section is pulled taut so every hair strand is caught on the roller. It’s easier if you go in thin sections and with more rollers. Patience is key! Don’t forget to spritz a little hair spray for some extra hold.

Twist, don't pull.
Once you’re ready to take out the hair rollers, remember to use the proper technique. Instead of pulling the rollers out, use a twisting motion instead! This preserves the curl you’ve worked hard to achieve.
Brush it out—again.
After taking out your hair rollers, loosen up the curls by lightly running a brush through your hair. It may sound counterintuitive but this gives your ‘do a more lived-in look. One more light mist of hair spray won’t hurt, either.
