Another day, another celebrity taking quarantine boredom out on their hair.
First, there was the pink obsession (Dua Lipa was the latest one to reach for the candy-colored dye). Hilary Duff went bright blue and looked really stunning. Then everyone started reaching for their pair of scissors, so Kim Kardashian’s hairstylist stepped in to talk people through cutting their DIY fringe the right way.
It’s been intense, to say the least.
And now 18-year-old model and actress Kaia Gerber has caused hair experts around the world to take a collective gasp of horror.
She BLEACHED her own hair using hydrogen peroxide. Eep!
In a recent interview, Kaia talked about how she was keeping busy during the quarantine, which included activities like fostering puppies, taking online classes, and reading. She then moved on to her risqué hair transformation:
"I recently posted a video on Instagram of Audrey Hepburn cutting her own bangs because I got to the point in quarantine where I was either going to cut my hair or dye it," she told Refinery29. "I knew something was going to happen, so I decided to give myself at-home highlights."
And what exactly did she use to lighten her brunette bob?
"I don't know if I'd recommend this, but I just used hydrogen peroxide, a random DIY thing I saw online somewhere," she admitted. "I literally put peroxide on my hair and then dried it with a blowdryer—just to hit it with heat—and it definitely lightened my color a shade or two for a subtle change."
Ok, you got away with it this time, Kaia, but our advice to anyone who gets the urge to reach for the bleach mid-way through cleaning their bathroom: Don't do it!
