Let's be real: 2024 was the year of blush. Nearly all our favorite beauty brands came out with blushes in different shades, formulas, and finishes—there was no shortage of choices for us beauty girlies. Apart from that, a couple of blush trends like the boyfriend and sunset blush looks made their way to our feeds and FYPs and had us incorporating different techniques into our rouge routines.

Most importantly, we were introduced to the concept of blush blindness—the culmination of the year of blush. You might be familiar with Sabrina Carpenter's Barbie-esque blush, or a local example might be Sassa Gurl's hotdog-left-on-top-of-rice putok blush look. It's a lighthearted concept birthed by TikTok that refers to someone not being able to notice how much blush they're packing on, so they keep layering until the effect is noticeable to everyone but themselves.

To honor blush's breakout year, members of the Cosmopolitan Philippines Beauty Club test-drove and reviewed three of the most popular blushes in the local market rn: Sunnies Face Blush On, Chu Chu Beauty Heart Blush Duo, and Happy Skin Jelly Blush. Here's what they think of them:

Texture and Blendability

The Blush On's texture was described to be smooth and creamy AF, making it very easy to blend onto their cheeks. They also reported that it offers more flexibility in terms of adding more pigment to their cheeks since it doesn't set immediately.

Shade range

With over seven shades in their current lineup, the Cosmo Beauty Club members lauded it for its variety. However, some reviewers noted that they could have added more to cater to more skin tones and preferences. (Fingers crossed for future releases!)

First impressions

Though described to be a little bulky and not as travel-friendly as the other two blushes, the Heart Blush Duo was praised by the Cosmo Beauty Club members for being cute and nostalgic-looking. The majority of them commented that it had no scent, but a few noted that it had a faint but non-distracting chemical smell.

Texture and Blendability

According to the Cosmo Beauty Club members, the Heart Blush Duo has a powdery texture that has quite a bit of fallout. However, they noted it as being easy to blend despite how pigmented it is and how much product you get with one tap of the brush.

Shade range

With over six—or 12, since there are two (!) in each compact—shades in its lineup, the majority of the Cosmo Beauty Club members agreed that it has a wide range that caters to the local market.

Price

Out of all the three blushes the Cosmo Beauty Club reviewed, this blush was the most affordable one at P349. They noted that it's very wallet-friendly and can be bought even if you're on a budget.

Happy Skin Jelly Blush

The newest release out of all the blushes reviewed, the Happy Skin Jelly Blush was quite divisive among the local beauty girlies when it dropped late last year. Described as "a first-of-its-kind flexible jelly tint," it promises to deliver a sheer wash of color onto the cheeks with just a couple of swipes.

Texture and Blendability

The majority of the group said that the Jelly Blush was kind of difficult to blend out, noting that it has a learning curve that may not be beginner-friendly. They did note, however, that the blush had a cooling feeling upon application, making it great to use in our hot weather.
