Let's get this straight: I'm not really the type to wear a full face of makeup every day, but one thing I'll never be caught lacking in is the lip department—my current weapon of choice is glossy stains. And while they look pretty for a few hours after application, they can never really hold up against food, coffee, or more importantly, when I'm being a lover girl with my boyfriend, lol.

One of my personal pet peeves is when the color on my lips fades after a steamy AF sesh with my guy, so in the spirit of journalism (and Valentine's Day being around the corner), I decided to try to find a long-wearing lipstick and review it in the most Cosmo way possible: to test its longevity by having sex!

After asking for consent from my guy if he would participate in this review (to which I got a v enthusiastic "yes," lol), my research for the best lipstick for the job led me to the MAC Cosmetics Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick. Did it stay on even after the deed? Read on to find out! ;)

What is the MAC Cosmetics Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour?

The Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour is a liquid lipstick that promises to be insanely pigmented and has a "velvety, mattest matte finish" that is true-to-color. It has a long-wearing formula that can last up to eight (!) hours and won't feather, smudge, or bleed.

My honest (and spicy!) review of the MAC Cosmetics Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour

Ngl, it's been years since I last used—or even thought about—liquid lipsticks. I was a big fan of Maybelline's Superstay liquid lippies in college, but damn if they didn't dry the hell out of my puckers. (The pigmentation was super, tho!)

For my spicy review, I got the shade Feels So Grand, a deep true red. Fun fact: After purchasing this lippie, I found out that this was the exact shade Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) wore in one of the scenes of Fifty Shades Darker, so...coincidence? I think not.

Anyway, before my guy and I did the deed, I prepped my lips by applying a peptide lip treatment to help counteract the imminent dryness and blotted it after a few minutes. Then, I lined the corners of my pout with a lip liner to help with staying in between the lines—believe me, this is a must, especially if you're applying a bold AF liquid lipstick shade.

After all that prep, I finally applied the liquid lipstick and was surprised by how light and velvety it felt on my pout given how these kinds of formulas are usually heavy. It was also insanely pigmented; the color immediately showed up with just one swipe. I let it dry for around 10 minutes and tried kissing a piece of tissue—nothing showed up, which was good! (I also pecked my boyfriend on the cheek to check for any transfer, but we were all good on that front, too).

Feels So Grand freshly applied on my lips. I love how deep and intense the red is!

Finally, my guy and I went straight to doing the deed for the ultimate test. Kisses and light making out didn't result in any transfer, but the real test was still up ahead. I give v messy, sloppy blow jobs (not technique-wise, ofc *wink*) so I knew this was the ultimate way to road-test the lippie.

At first, it felt kind of weird to be blowing him with a liquid lip on that I unconsciously tried to be more careful with what I was doing, but once I was in the zone, I forgot that it was even there. After a while, I asked my guy to check my face to see if it transferred to my chin and he reported that there was none—he also noted that the lipstick was still going strong! (Spoiler: He didn't see much because the lights were v dimmed, lol).

Once we were done and all blissed out, I immediately switched on the light to check the damage. Although the lipstick has kinda rubbed off my bottom lip, it didn't look as bad as I expected. I was also surprised to see that the pigment on my top lip was still pretty much intact. As for any transfer, there was a bit on my hand from the blow job, as well as on my boyfriend and I's chins from all the making out. However, there wasn't any ring around his penis (yes, we checked). All in all, still a win in my book!

Here's what Feels So Grand looked like on my lips after sex.

So...is the MAC Cosmetics Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour sex- and blow job-proof?

Kinda—depends on how hard you're going, tbh! Kissing and making out won't really result in much transfer, but if you're someone who's very...enthusiastic about giving blow jobs, don't be surprised to see some on your chin or hand.

The lipstick performed reasonably well for what I put it through, so I'm very happy about that. Outside of sex, I think this would be a great lipstick to use if you want something that will really last you all day. The color I picked, Feels So Grand, is also a good choice if you want a bold red lip for events and dates (especially for V-Day *wink*).
