I have a confession: I'm a certified lipstick fiend. I simply cannot leave the house without swiping on a lippie, whether it's a lipstick, balm, gloss, tint, or oil. Yes, even just to run errands! I'm sure a lot of our Cosmo Girls are in the same boat, LOL.
But there are days when you don't want to think about picking a lip product to wear, so you reach for your everyday choice. For me, I'd prefer my everyday lippie to have both color saturation and hydration. That's why I gravitate towards lip glosses or oils, which are both very moisturizing formulas.

And if you were to ask me, everyone should have a lip oil in their pocket. These offer shine without the stickiness, hydration that lasts quite a while, and a variety of colors to suit every mood and compliment various skin tones. One of the lip oils I've been road testing over the past few months (and close to a year) is the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil. It's been on my radar ever since it launched in 2023, but as someone trying to practice underconsumption, I had to really think about whether I wanted to splurge on it or not.
I finally bit the bullet and I'm ready to share my unfiltered thoughts about this product. Read on to discover the verdict!

What is the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil?
The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil is one of the lip products offered by Selena Gomez's beauty brand. It features a jelly-to-oil formula that starts off glossy and leaves a tint on the lips as it dries down.
The lip oil is currently available in eight shades: Happy (cool pink), Hope (nude mauve), Wonder (rose mauve), Joy (muted peach), Honesty (nude brown), Serenity (warm rose), Delight (rose brown), and Affection (muted berry). It's priced at P1,450 per 3ML of product.

Ofc, we have to talk about the component. It has a similar shape as the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush, which has an easy-to-grip cap and matte outer packaging. The doe-foot applicator is nothing special, but I must say that it hugs my lips perfectly whenever I apply the lip oil. The product bottle itself is very slim and fits right inside my bags.
An honest review of the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil
If you've ever entered a Sephora store that carries Rare Beauty, then you'd have noticed that the Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil isn't the highlight of the display. Nevertheless, it's still a popular product—some shades were out of stock across multiple Sephora outlets I visited over the past year.
So as a lipstick lover, I became more intrigued by why people were buying this lip oil over the other alternatives from Asian brands. Sure the shades available look promising, but a lot of brands offer the same range of choices. Swatching the testers doesn't really indicate the products' true performance...until you try to wipe off the swatches. I was surprised with how fast the lip oils left a tint on the back of my hand. Needless to say, it was the reason I ended up buying the shade Delight.

I've tried two ways of applying this product. First on its own, with no prior lipcare or other product; then second, with a lip liner.
On its own, the lip oil felt moisturizing enough on the lips. It had a cooling sensation too, which vaguely reminded me of applying lippies with menthol products but waaaaay nicer. A fresh layer closely resembles a more viscous lip gloss, but it didn't feel sticky or heavy on the lips. Just be careful about applying too much, since it can go on your teeth and create a potentially embarrassing moment. (Totally not speaking from experience!)

If you want to create the illusion of a plumper pout, then you should try lining your lips before applying the lip oil. While it doesn't add to the product's longevity, this method is a nice way of switching up your look.
It delivers on both shine, tint, and comfort.
The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil comes through with its claims of giving shine, tint, and comfort with every application. When freshly applied, it leaves a very opaque and saturated seash of color on my lips. I've also received multiple compliments saying that my lips look extra juicy when I'm wearing the lip oil, so take that as you will.

That said, it still feels light and comfortable. The lip oil didn't feel tacky nor did it bleed after applying. And it's v v hydrating—my lips have never felt softer. That's thanks to the jojoba and sunflower seed oils infused in the formula.
It's not long-lasting (which I expected).
Since this is still a lip oil, I didn't expect it to be budgeproof. However, I loved how it gracefully faded away as I went about my day yapping, eating, drinking, and yapping some more. Yup, there wasn't a case of butthole lips here! The tint left behind is noticeable enough to add some life to your pout. And ICYC, it's not completely makeout proof. Let it dry down before you exchange a hot kiss with your partner. ;)

A little goes a long way.
That said, a little goes a long way with the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil. I never had to dip back into the bottle more than once to achieve the glossy lips I want. To be quite transparent, I've been using this product for close to a year and just recently emptied out my first purchase despite reapplying multiple times within the same day. And yup, I ended up repurchasing the same shade (Delight), plus a new-to-me shade called Wonder.
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil: Is it worth the splurge?
With all that said, do I think you should splurge on this lip oil? It depends. I loved the hybrid effect of the product's glossiness when freshly applied and the obvious tint as time passes.
There are other products that deliver the same effect at more affordable prices. It really depends on your budget and whether you're comfortable enough to spend more than P1,000 pesos on a lip oil. My tip: Try to catch a Sephora sale to get it for a more affordable price and split the shipping fee with a bestie.
