K-drama stars and K-pop idols probably have some of the most flawless faces in the global entertainment industry. It's clear to see that there's something Koreans know about beauty that a majority of us don't. So, naturally, we decided to do some digging. Here are five truly useful makeup techniques Korean celebrity MUAs use that we should start incorporating into our daily routines too:
5 Beauty Techniques That Korean Celebrity Makeup Artists Do
-
Instant dewy skin
Glass skin is undoubtedly one of the greatest contributions of K-beauty. Hong Hyunjeong (@hongsmakeuplay on Instagram), the makeup artist behind the faces of Korea's biggest fashion magazines, achieves the perfect dewy look with serum spray. After finishing the base makeup, she spritzes on a thin layer of serum spray to add moisture back into the skin.

You can use it to prep your skin before makeup or after for that instant dew.

Doll-like lashes
If you want to achieve natural-looking, doll-like lashes, try this trick by BLACKPINK's makeup artist, Myungsun Lee, also known as Maeng Ssaem. This technique is all about precision, so you'll need a mascara with a thin wand and a pair of tweezers. Instead of applying mascara like you normally would (with the brush being held horizontally), hold the mascara wand vertically and coat your lashes in sections using the tip of the wand. Focus on coating the areas where you want extra volume like the middle and outer edges. You then take the tweezers, coat it with mascara, and use it to pinch your eyelashes together creating clean separate lines with your natural lashes. This technique works for both the upper and lower lash lines.

Longer lasting blush
Here's a tip from PONY, one of Korea's top makeup gurus. If, like us, you grew up watching tons of makeup tutorials back in 2015, it's most likely that you've come across one of her videos at least once in your life. To make cream blushes last even longer, she suggests going over it with a powder blush. It's similar to the concept of using a translucent powder to set your undereye concealer.

Easy laminated brows
Ran out of brow gel or want to try the laminated brow look? Try this trick from Son Dae Sik and Park Tae Yun, founder of K-beauty brand Son & Park and the duo often regarded as Korea's number one makeup artists. Every makeup routine should start with washing your face. While your face is still damp, use your fingers or a spoolie to comb your eyebrows in the direction you want them to go. Then carefully dry your face, making sure not to affect the shape of your eyebrows. Cause once it dries down, your eyebrow hairs will stay in place. Korean actress Jeon Ji Hyun is known to use this trick as well.

No-clump mascara
If you've followed Korean makeup trends for a while now, you may have heard of MUAs using heated wooden sticks to curl the eyelashes. But did you know it can also be used to fix clumpy, spider-looking lashes? Heat a wooden stick, preferably a thick and blunt one, like a chopstick or the butt end of a large match stick with a lighter. You want it hot but not burnt. Wait for it to cool a bit, then carefully brush the stick where your mascara is clumpy. The heat will melt the clumps and will even help your lashes stay in place longer. They also use this trick to manipulate the direction of where they want the eyelashes to go.
