Marian Throws It Back To 2007
On the night of April 27, 2024, Marian shared a video of her doing her makeup to bring back Marimar—Marian's breakout character in the 2007 telenovela of the same name—to all her social media accounts. She adopts the Asoka makeup trend that features fun, dancey transitions to show the makeup process step-by-step. She also uses the Marimar theme song instead of the trend's usual "San Sanana." Marian is always known to do things her way and we love it!
Marian posted a teaser featuring a silhouette of her dancing Marimar style the night prior.
The video proved to be a hit as it saw an increase in Marian's Facebook followers, a feat she acknowledged immediately in another post.
What Is The Asoka Makeup Trend?
The Asoka makeup trend takes its name from a 2011 Bollywood film. It is characterized by fast-paced cuts to the tune of the film's theme song "San Sanana." Every cut features a step in creating an Indian bridal look that showcases lots of glam and artistic details.
Indonesian-based makeup artist Sita Suwarnadwipa is one of the first content creators associated with the trend. Content creators from all over the world soon followed. In The Philippines, one of the most notable Asoka videos is by Lenie Aycardo. It has also inspired the #PiliinMoAngPilipinas makeup challenge where the transitions and props feature Filipino elements.
A Lookback At Marimar
In 1994, the Mexican telenovela Marimar introduced the world to Thalia. A little over 10 years later, Marian took on the lead role in the Philippine television remake of the telenovela. Her love interest in the series was Dingdong Dantes. Back then, the romance between the two had yet to develop.
According to Pep.ph, the success of Marimar confirmed Marian's status as the Primetime Queen.
