K-beauty is elite. There, I said it. And that's because it's more than just a social media trend—it's an emphasis on skin health. With early prevention continuing to rise in the beauty sphere, consumers are flocking to Korean skincare solutions.
This, paired with celebrity endorsement has us sold. I mean, Jessica Chastain's complexion is one to envy and we may have just found the reason for it...
In a recent Instagram post, Jessica and her Mothers' Instinct co-star Anne Hathaway shared a selfie together donning face masks. "Mothers' calling," the pair wrote to caption their joint post.
In the picture, Anne wears the Shiseido Exclusive Vital Perfection LiftDefine Radiance Face Mask (yep, my sleuthing as a beauty journalist has reached new heights), while Jessica wears a rubber mask. And although it's not so obvious, it's one that I'm almost certain is a collagen-based Korean mask. Could it be TikTok's infamous Biodance Bio Collagen-Real Deep Mask?
We think so...

But why has this particular mask gone viral on TikTok, and is it any good? Well, we consulted two professionals on the benefits of collagen face masks and whether they're worth the investment. Keep scrolling to find out their thoughts.

What is collagen?
Pauline Cox, BSc MSc, Functional Nutritionist, author, and women's health specialist, previously shared an explanation of collagen with Cosmopolitan UK. "Collagen is the cornerstone protein in skin that determines a great deal of the skin's visual characteristics," Pauline explained. "Our body is continuously making more collagen to replace that which has been degraded. Skin experiences an age-dependent collagen loss, which sees a reduction in elasticity, plumpness, smoothness, and an increase in the number of wrinkles."

Basically, this means the production of collagen begins to drop off from the age of 25 and that's when skin may begin to show signs of aging—something which can be accelerated by smoking, stress, sugar, alcohol, sunlight (note to self: buy SPF and wear it every day!) and pollution exposure.
Enter: Collagen face masks.
What are collagen face masks?
"Collagen face masks are all about hydration, plumping, and keeping your skin firm and bouncy," Emily West, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner at Creo Clinic.
There are different types of collagen masks, including sheet masks, gel masks, and cream-based treatments, all infused with collagen, peptides, and skin-loving ingredients to enhance your complexion. While topical collagen doesn't directly replenish lost collagen, Emily says that "these masks work wonders for boosting moisture, softening fine lines, and enhancing overall radiance."

Collagen face mask benefits
"There's a reason collagen masks have become a skincare staple—they deliver serious results," Emily says. Their biggest perk? Deep hydration that plumps the skin and smooths out fine lines and wrinkles. They also help boost firmness and elasticity, giving your skin a naturally lifted look over time.
So, whether you're prepping for a big event or just need a quick pick-me-up, let a collagen face mask do all the work. Fresh, glowing, and nourished skin, here we come!
