When it comes to skincare, hyaluronic acid (or HA) is synonymous with hydration and moisture. ICYDK, HA naturally occurs in the body, which produces less of the substance as we age. That said, an easy way to increase HA and keep the skin hydrated is to use products that carry this ingredient.
While HA is already effective as is, LANEIGE created its own version called “Blue HA,” which combines regular HA with “Fucoidan” from deep sea algae to further amplify the hydration. Blue HA is the star ingredient in the Korean brand’s Waterbank line, a full skincare regimen that not only boosts moisture but also repairs the skin’s barrier:

- Waterbank Blue Hyaluronic Eye Cream: Contains caffeine that reduces puffiness and wrinkles caused by dryness, coconut that cools and soothes the skin, and glutathione and Blue HA that give the eye area a lively and dewy glow.
- Waterbank Blue Hyaluronic Cream: The Waterbank line’s hero product, which also comes in two formulas. The one for dry to normal skin offers full repair and moisture that are retained even after 100 hours. It also has a mild cream formula that’s suitable for sensitive skin. The combination to oily skin variant has a gel texture with cream beads that moisturizes the skin minus the stickiness. It maintains a layer of moisture and protection for 48 hours and can be used on acne-prone skin.

Full disclosure: I used to be inconsistent with my skincare routine. I only used a serum and sunscreen in the daytime. At nighttime, I didn’t always get to do my skincare, especially when I was tired from the day’s activities. I owned a moisturizer but didn’t use it as much because it felt heavy on my oily skin.
So when the opportunity to try the Waterbank line presented itself, I took it. I got to test the full line, which included products for oily skin, for about a month. Although I have oily skin, I did have dry patches of skin around my mouth. I also traveled to Bali, which despite having a similar climate to the Philippines also meant I was more heavily exposed to the sun than I usually am.

My initial reaction upon trying the whole regimen was that my skin felt so soft and moisturized right off the bat. I first used it at nighttime, so when I woke up the next day, my skin was supple and fresh. I found that it also served as a good base for my makeup. I applied my foundation smoothly over it and didn’t cause any pilling. My skin felt hydrated throughout the day and my makeup still looked great by the end of it.
I religiously used the products for a week before my week-long trip. I had to pack light so I brought only the cleanser, serum, and cream with me. Even with just these products (and sunscreen, of course!), my skin didn’t experience any dryness despite me being out in the sun for most of the day.
After the trip, I continued using the full regimen for two more weeks. I had the same experience with the products as I did when I first tried them. So, was it worth it? I’d definitely say that it was. The products feel light on the skin while going heavy on the hydration. I can wear them under my makeup without worrying about my foundation moving around. My skin is glowing too! The key thing I noticed at the end of the month-long trial, however, was that the skin around my mouth was much smoother and less flaky than before I used Waterbank. And that to me is a win!
