Once again, another Filipina made it to the international scene—all because of her talent and her wit. Abi Marquez, who owns the moniker "Lumpia Queen," won the People's Voice Award in the General Social: Food & Drink category.

Wearing a Filipiniana terno gown by designer Santi Obcena, Abi received her award with so much humility and gratitude.

Aside from the the award-giving body, she expressed utmost thanks to her fellow Filipinos who have supported her in her journey as a content creator. "Philippines, this is for you," she briefly said in her acceptance speech uploaded in The Webby Awards' official website.

The 23-year-old influencer also shared a heartfelt post about her success. "WE DID IT FAM. First Filipino from the Philippines to win the Webby Award, because of you!" she began in her post.

She continued, "This is a celebration of Filipino food, talent, and the hard work of so many people. Grateful beyond words for the chance to fly to New York, represent our country, and cherish this moment as a core memory."

This is not the only recognition that Abi has been reaping this year. Recently, she also announced her nomination to the James Beard Foundation's Media Award under the Baking and Desserts category. 

Last year, Erwan Heussaff was recognized by the award-giving body that focuses on how food culture and people involved in the culinary industry impacts the world today.

Abi Marquez is among Forbes Asia's '30 Under 30'

In addition to all the mentioned recognition above, Abi won TikTok's Creator of the Year for Food award in 2023. This is after less than two years of her joining the platform and setting up a cooking channel.

This 2024, Abi also nabbed a spot in the prestigious Forbes Asia's "30 under 30." Rapper and singer Ez Mil and pharmacist TikToker Arshie Larga were also included in the list.

Forbes sees Abi beyond her "Lumpia Queen" identity, noting that the 23-year-old content creator promotes all aspects of Filipino food culture. According to Forbes, Abi successfully transitioned from her chef training into videography

With over three million followers on her TikTok account, Abi continues to entertain and educate people about all kinds of Filipino food—whether it's in a lumpia wrapper or not.
