Sad news for everyone. Meteor Garden star Barbie Hsu has reportedly passed away at the age of 48.

According to Taiwanese news report, Barbie's younger sister, Dee Hsu, confirmed her demise to the public. In a statement released through her manager on February 3, Dee detailed that Barbie died because of pneumonia after contracting influenza in Japan.

"Thank you all for your concern! During the New Year holiday, our whole family traveled to Japan. My dearest and kindest sister, Xiyuan, unfortunately passed away due to flu-related pneumonia," Dee's statement released to Taiwanese media TVBS News read.

The Hsu family visited Japan for the Lunar New Year which was held on the last week of January.

She added, "I am grateful to have been her sister in this lifetime, to have cared for each other and accompanied each other. I will always be thankful for her and miss her forever. Shan~ Rest in peace! Love you always—Together, remember forever."

Rumors about her death first spread on Sunday, February 2, as her ex-husband Wang Xiaofei, changed his social media profiles to black.

Barbie leaves behind her husband, South Korean DJ and singer Koo Jun Yupwhom she married in March 2022—and her daughter and son with ex-husband Wang Xiaofei, aged 10 and 8 years old respectively.

Barbie is best known as Shancai in the OG Taiwanese drama, Meteor Garden, which became a total hit in the Philippines in the early 2000s. There she starred alongside Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu, and Vanness Wu.
