Would you be able to kiss your ex again? Well, for Barbie Imperial, it suddenly became a part of her job.
Barbie is currently starring in her newest film alongside her ex-boyfriend JM De Guzman and Kapuso star Jasmine Curtis-Smith. Their film, 3 Days 2 Nights In Poblacion, tackles different aspects of friendships and relationships.
According to the film's director, RC delos Reyes, the kissing scene between Barbie and JM was inevitable. "The kiss was an important part of the story," the director told Inquirer.net in an interview.
Direk RC shared that Barbie tried to negotiate the kissing scene beforehand. But from the very beginning, the film director made her understand that it needed to be shot, despite her hesitance.
"She was hesitant in the beginning. I guess she felt it was too personal. She even said, "Direk, puwede bang wala?"" Direk RC shared.
The director then revealed that Barbie had requested to tone down the kissing scene, which was initially meant to be more intense than what was ultimately shown in the film.
"What really took a lot of convincing was the kissing scene. I told her it’s just a one-time thing. On the set, before agreeing to it, she took one deep breath and said, "Direk, we will only do this once, okay?" That was it, but the kiss had a spark," Direk RC stated.
During the red carpet premiere of their film, Barbie openly talked about her kissing scene with JM. She admitted that there was so much awkwardness, which made the scene difficult for her to execute.
"Parang ewan, nailang ako honestly 'dun sa kissing scene because dapat mas ano pa 'yung kiss 'nun eh basta malala! But then I said baka pwedeng medyo pa-sweet lang and then if it's needed naman talaga sa pelikula gagawin ko naman talaga," she said to ABS-CBN News.
Barbie has nothing against JM as a co-worker. But she mentioned that there was a disconnect between the two of them because it had been a long time since they last saw each other.
"Okay naman kami talaga, I mean whatever that’s happened in the past, it's all in the past and we were younger," the actress noted.

Barbie Imperial and JM De Guzman's past relationship
Barbie and JM got close through their 2018 teleserye, Araw Gabi. In the same year, Barbie publicly shared that their term of endearment for each other was "love."
According to Barbie, JM did pursue her after their show Araw Gabi ended. She once shared that they ended up dating for more than a month. However, things did not work out for both of them, as they were both "broken" as described by the actress in a 2019 interview.
"So parang kaming dalawa po, dalawang tao na wasak, tina-try naming pareho na ayusin 'yung isa't isa, buuin 'yung isa't-isa, pero 'di po pala puwede 'yun. Dapat parang at least may isang tao na buo, kasi ang hirap po ng wasak ka na nga, tapos wasak din aayusin mo. Paano mo aayusin 'yung sarili mo?" she said.
