Bea Alonzo’s life has always unfolded in broad daylight. We've watched intently as she lives out the big-screen kind of love—whether it's in the darkness of cinemas or through the glitz and glamour of her celebrity. She has, after all, played the lead in some of the biggest romance films and series throughout her illustrious 20-year career. That kind of stardust tends to settle even in intimate spaces.
The cruel complications aren’t new to her, either. She’s had to face the shadows that come with the spotlight—especially when it comes to publicly dealing with private heartbreaks. But she’s not one to stay in the shade.
“I am a dreamer. I don't stop dreaming,” she tells Cosmopolitan Philippines. She has dreams, she manifests them, and she makes sure they see the light of day. Cases in point: She made the career-changing move from ABS-CBN to GMA, bought a P30-million apartment in Madrid to become a Spanish resident, invested in and developed a sustainable farm in Zambales, and recently launched her lifestyle brand.
She’s also taking on the most special role of her life yet as she's set to marry actor Dominic Roque after more than two years together.

“There was a time, actually, that I didn't really see myself getting married anymore,” Bea admits. “But of course, when Dom proposed, alam ko na that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.”
Dom’s proposal to Bea is straight out of a movie. He staged an entire photoshoot at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar for the unsuspecting Bea, who was all glammed up by design. While Bea was posing for the camera, photographer Mark Nicdao asked her to turn around—only for her to see Dom kneeling on one knee, ring in hand.

Bea is wearing a pink maillot from EIGHTH MERMAID and a pair of white dotted tights from FALKE.
In a rom-com, there’s usually that one scene when the main character immediately realizes they’ve found the ever-elusive The One. It was different for Bea. She took her time with it and let it all dawn on her.
“It wasn't necessarily him. It was all my learnings, the lessons that I've learned through the years, and being in other relationships before,” she explains with an air of clarity. “But, one thing he did for sure is that he allowed me to trust in love again.”
It wasn’t a light decision for her to make given her experiences that could cloud her judgment. “Saying yes to being in a relationship with Dom is really big for me. Given that I, you know, had a very bad one before him.”

Of course, we know. As fans, it’s hard not to be invested whenever the buzziest names in showbiz get together behind the scenes. But we can only imagine how difficult it gets when things don’t work out and they still have to face the camera.
In the same vein, it gives us all the more joy to see a celeb we love find love. Even more so when it seems to be the healthy, communicative, and loyal kind of love they deserve.
“Siyempre hindi mawawala yung mga petty issues namin,” Bea shares, “but then there's always this commitment that we're willing to work it out even though we still have differences, ‘di ba?” She continues, “It's the commitment to always address the issues and work [them] out. That's what I appreciate [about my relationship with Dom].”

There’s no date for the Bea-Dom wedding just yet. Though one song will likely be on the reception playlist: “Lover” by Taylor Swift.
“When we were starting to go out, yun yung time na sikat na sikat or kaka-launch lang ni Taylor Swift ng Lover. And so, I found it sweet. And then, parang pa-Christmas season [nun], so…we would tease each other na yun yung song namin and that actually became our song.”
It doesn’t completely sum up their relationship (“Hirap naman niyan,” she says with a laugh). But with lyrics like,“I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover / My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue / All's well that ends well to end up with you,” it’s the perfect soundtrack to their serendipitous love story.

“We've been friends since 2016 pero we saw each other in a different light in 2019 when we went to Japan.” So it’s a full-circle moment for the friends-turned-lovers that they’re attending the Eras Tour in Tokyo next year. “I know! 'Di ba?!” she says, as kilig as ever, when it was pointed out.
For now, fans will have to stay on the lookout for wedding updates. They’re still in the Pinterest-board phase. “Nandun pa lang [kami] sa premature wedding planning. It's not like there are concrete plans already. I haven't even talked to suppliers yet,” Bea shares.

What she does know is that it’s going to be simple—in her own way, of course. “I definitely do not want to have a big wedding. I want an intimate one. Nandun siya siguro in between traditional and non-traditional.” She adds, “we're just trying to figure out what our wedding will be like. But definitely, it's fun.”
Wedding planning should be a walk in the park for Bea. She’s made life-defining decisions before. It’s been two years since she became a Kapuso after two decades of being a Kapamilya.

Bea is wearing a neutral corset, a peach skirt from EIGHTH MERMAID and an ombre silk robe from ETAM.
“I have learned to adapt. I've learned to adapt easily,” she says about how the switch helped her grow as an actress. “Although, of course, I've had a great career with ABS for 19 years or 20 years. I also feel that sometimes, there are decisions that you have to make to be able to grow and that you can learn how to make decisions on your own also.”
She continues, “I feel like I was able to do that when I moved. I'm not saying that ABS isn't able to or isn't allowing me to do such decisions. It's just that feeling ko lang the world is so big that you have to also see what's out there.”

Regardless of which channel you’ll watch her on, there’s one thing she’s learned from her career: “To respect the ones you work with.”
Well, there’s that and the fact that fans will always clamor for another project with John Lloyd Cruz. She recently reunited with her co-star to celebrate her birthday. “When we got together, hindi naman namin alam that that was our 21st anniversary as a love team. I didn't know. We had no idea. We were just hanging out,” she recalls.

“When I saw that our fans were celebrating our anniversary the next day when they saw us, I also wondered, ‘Ano nga kaya? How's it gonna be like kaya if I were to do Basha again?’” Seeing fans still invested in their tandem makes her open to more projects with JLC in the future.
“Ang dami nang offers. Hindi natuloy, hindi nag-materialize. But then, just because there will be a One More Chance musical with the music of Ben&Ben, maybe… A Third Chance?” she teases.

For Bea, her move to GMA was truly a milestone because she had to consider her personal relationships. “Kasi siyempre ang dami mong kailangan i-consider, ‘di ba? Your relationships, will it be different? Kasi most of my friends are still in ABS.” But when it comes to her investments—like her Spain apartment and Zambales farm—they felt natural because she was simply fulfilling her dreams.
“Actually, when I was thinking about investing in Spain, it didn't feel like it was a huge decision to make because I've always wanted to invest in a property abroad,” she explains. When she was in quarantine during the pandemic, she was already binge-watching House Hunters International. “It [was] as if I [was] already buying a house. So, it didn't feel like a big decision to me.”

She adds, “It's just like making my dreams come true. It wasn't really nerve-wracking for me. It just happened. I knew I was gonna work hard for it because yun yung nakikita ko sa future, probably going there every summer with my kids, if I have kids already. And then having my family there.”
Bea’s farm in Zambales also became close to her heart, especially since the land was razed by wildfire. “It's a work in progress. It's a learning process all the time. Kasi there are things that we read online [that] would help the planet—we do it.” She elaborates, “We have solar energy and then we don't use pesticides, we don't use sprays, all those things. It's definitely more challenging and more expensive but I know in the long run, it's more sustainable.”

Bea is wearing a blue ruffled halter maillot from EIGHTH MERMAID.
Beyond real-estate investments, Bea’s also dipping her toes into lifestyle brands. “I've always been very savvy and entrepreneurial, I think.” And so she launched her line called BASH. (Yes, just like her chicken-skin-loving character.)
They’ve come out with a collection of travel cubes, organizers, and toiletries. “I love to travel and I wanted to create a line that would cater to my needs. And somehow, I feel like my friends also have the same needs.” She wanted to fill a gap in the market. “It looks cute, it's not that expensive, but it's also very durable.”

When asked what’s lined up for her, Bea let out an excited gasp. “A lot. Things I can’t tell you about just yet.”
But she did reveal that she’s starting a new series after her current one with Dennis Trillo, Love Before Sunrise, wraps up this month. She’s also working on other shows with GMA that she'll share soon enough.

The sun doesn’t set on a star as bright as Bea. “I always look forward to something,” she says. Her mindset is always, “After this, I will do this.”
That's why an afterglow follows all the different paths she takes on. Bea doesn’t just step into the light—she embraces it.
