Marriage may not be for everyone and that's okay––that's what actress and Cosmopolitan Philippines December 2023 cover star Bea Alonzo has to say when asked about her thoughts on settling down.
The 37-year-old actress declared that she's enjoying her single life at the moment. In a report released by Saksi on December 7, 2024, Bea admitted that even if she's not exclusively dating anyone right now, there are already possible love interests for her and she's not closing her doors for love.
However, she is currently taking her time before committing again to a relationship. For her, what's important right now is to build that "strong connection" with her future partner. With all of that, she sees no need to be pressured to tie the knot and finally settle down with someone.
"Hindi naman marriage 'yung laging endgame ng lahat. I mean, we have different paths, we have different destinies and fate. If it happens, I'll be happy, but it doesn't mean that I would beat myself up if it doesn't happen," Bea confidently declared.
Bea Alonzo's past relationship
Bea had her fair share of experiences in love––and for the most part, she was reported to have dated fellow actors. But it was in 2023 when Bea got engaged to her ex-boyfriend Dominic Roque. Dom planned a surprise proposal for Bea, which all her fans, friends, and family rejoiced.
Of course, Bea was stunned and elated by the proposal. In a 2023 interview she recalled the moment, saying, "'Pag-face ko na ganyan, nakaluhod na si Dom." She added, "Tapos alam mo, ang dami-dami ko nang ginawang eksenang ganyan sa buong career ko—siguro 30 plus na—in my 22 years in the business. Pero mali pala yung acting ko, mali pala lahat."
"Alam mo pa yung nangyari? Siyempre may speech siya na hinanda. Wala akong narinig kahit isa. Wala akong matandaan kasi parang nag-freeze yung moment na parang nag-slow mo na parang naririnig ko lang yung thoughts ko na, 'Oh my God, it's happening.' After the proposal, iyak ako nang iyak. Gano'n pala 'yon talaga sa totoong buhay."
Unfortunately, less than a year after the proposal, Bea and Dom announced the end of their relationship. The two released a joint statement asking for everyone's kindness and some privacy as they transition out of their relationship.
"After much thought, consideration, and care, we have mutually decided to amicably end our engagement. It was not an easy decision. We wanted to have more time to carefully deliberate and pray about it, but there have been many speculations, questions, and insults. [...] Please understand that this is an extremely painful yet united decision, and we sincerely request for everyone to kindly spare us from more cruel and very hurtful words thrown on social media," their statement read.
