All garbed up in bright period clothes from what looks to be the romantic Regency era, Bridgerton follows the tales of the powerful Bridgerton family. Their eldest daughter, Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) is making her debut into the highly competitive high society marriage marketonly the scandal sheet of Lady Whistledown appears to have it in for her, casting aspersions after aspersions.

Enter the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), the type of good-looking guy books refer to as a roguish rake, or was it rakish rogue? Either apply to this rebellious young man, who, of course, is strangely attracted to the innocent Daphne. Before you dive into the Shondaland-produced seriesyes, as in Shonda Rhimes' production companywe take it back to its origins. The show is an adaptation of the first book from the popular Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn. You might remember those types of books you definitely should not have read in high school but probably did? Well, this book series is definitely one of them.

The first book is entitled The Duke And I and yes, it is every bit as steamy as you expectwith an enthralling story to back it up. In the first book, Simon Bassett, aka the Duke of Hastings, and Daphne are actually in cahoots; they pretend to be in love to get their marriagehappy mothers off their back. And as you can tell, that plan backfires in the best way possible.
