Netflix just released a new behind-the-scenes video of Bridgerton, their latest drama set in the Regency period. In the BTS, actress Nicola Coughlan walks us through her transformation to her character Penelope Featherington, who is the youngest Featherington child and—*spoiler alert*—the enigmatic Lady Whistledown.
Nicola shares that it takes two hours each day to get her hair and makeup ready for the show. She also points out that the hair takes a lot more work, since during the Regency, "it was more about the hair than it was about the face."
If you've seen the dazzling butterfly hair accessories on the Featheringtons, there's a reason for that. Nicola says it's because the Featherington family motif is a butterfly.

Nicola recently responded to criticism about Bridgerton's diverse cast. She tweeted, "You know the way some people were like, 'Diversity in period drama doesn't work'…63 million households thought it did [though], so." She later added, "Remember people were trying to downvote the show on IMDB 'cos it was so diverse? You can't downvote us being [Netflix's] fifth-biggest original release ever."
