It’s been a usual practice for rookie K-pop groups to decide on a name for their fandoms a few months after their debut. Most of the time, these fandom names were suggested by devout fans themselves and would have an *important* meaning to both the group and their supporters.
Immediately after K-pop girl group LAPILLUS debuted in June 2022, their avid fans have been thinking of a fandom name that would perfectly encapsulate their relationship with their idols. Well, the wait is over! Just recently, the girl group announced that their fandom name would *officially* be called “Lapis”—and Chanty had the best reaction!
“[What’s up] Lapis! You are now officially Lapillus’s Lapis!” The Filipina-Argentinian K-pop idol tweeted. “Do you like it? Hmm, ginusto niyo yan. Haha!”
In a previous interview, Chanty explained that “Lapis” means “pencil” in Filipino, which made the members want to “think about it more.”
All jokes aside, “Lapis” *does* have a beautiful meaning: “A gem meets another gem and together, they shine brighter.” Aww!
