Markus Wiedenmann is the stuff dreams are made of. Tall, fair, and with an infectious smile and eyes you could get lost in, it’s easy to imagine the half-Thai, half-German supermodel breaking hearts as he walks down Manila streets. In fact, this supermodel’s good looks have taken him all over the globe—from Eastern locales like Thailand, Hong Kong, and Tokyo to Western terrains like Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain, and US. But there’s a lot more to this male model than tisoy features and a terrific track record.
For one, the 26-year-old looker won’t settle for getting by on good looks alone. He actually put himself through high school and college, graduating at the age of 21 with a degree in Medicine and Psychology from the University of Berlin. Now, he is taking up his Master's online to prepare him for a career as a psychologist. And this is on top of his modeling stints, product endorsements, acting duties, and TV appearances in Thailand and overseas.
Beauty and brains, indeed.

Describe your most memorable summer.
I guess my most memorable summers would be in my childhood because [they were] happy. I always get the chance to spend two types of summer in every year—in Germany and in Thailand. But the most memorable one was when I was about to get into high school and I was starting to be attracted to other people. It just makes that summer really, really special.
What do you think of summer flings?
My attitude toward it is, as long as it’s nice, you have a good time, it’s something to remember, then you go for it. As long as you don’t hurt anyone else.
What’s your favorite vacation spot?
I like skiing, so in winter I like to go to mountains that have lots of snow. And in summer, I like the beaches, waterfalls, and Southeast Asia. So I think the ideal spot to have a holiday is any country, any island that is included in the Southeast Asian region.
Does that include the Philippines?
Yes, it does! I’ve been really, really making plans to go around the many thousands of islands that you guys have.
So far, have you been to any place in the Philippines that you really love?
Actually I came here for a short vacation in December. I got the chance to go out into the city, up north to this volcano spot that turns baby blue only in the two past months: Mt. Pinatubo, the one that has a lot of sulfur in it. I kind of like that. It’s peaceful, yet it feels like it’s so full of life. It was really great because, actually, that’s another thing on my list of things to do in my life: swimming in the crater of an active volcano.
So far, what do you like best about the Philippines?
I like how things are very outgoing. People here are very direct. They speak English very well. You can always get McDonald’s (laughs). And it’s good! I like the home-style kind of thing that Filipinos have. I like Filipino cuisine as well.
What Filipino dish do you like?
I jump from one to another at the moment. I like sisig. I had a lot of fun at Dencio’s. [I also tried] the crispy pata. And oh, I really like sinigang.
What activities do you like doing in summer?
During summers I like to go out under the heat, get into very cool water, go to the beach, have frozen fruit drinks, and pretty much be adventurous.
When you’re at the beach checking out chicks, what look usually attracts you?
Usually it turns out to be the personality that attracts me. When [girls] pass by, [you can tell] who is more confident and comfortable in what they’re wearing and who they are. It kind of shows. I think the ones who are confident in what they are move very comfortably. I don’t know, it’s a slow-motion kind of thing. So it could be anyone and everyone.
So it doesn’t matter if they’re wearing a one-piece or a two-piece?
I think I like the two-piece better (laughs).
