In case you haven't heard: The glitzy and glamorous world of Crazy Rich Asians is finally making the leap from the big screen to Broadway!
Crazy Rich Asians Will Be Adapted Into A Broadway Musical
The beloved romantic comedy will be undergoing a musical stage adaptation with John M. Chu—who also directed the 2018 film—at the helm. According to Hollywood Reporter, the musical is being developed by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures and the original author of the book series, Kevin Kwan. It will also feature a book by Leah Nanako Winkler, music by Helen Park, and lyrics by Amanda Green and Tat Tong.
"Start spreadin' the news...I'm beyond excited to be working with @jonmchu again and an amazing tribe of musical geniuses @thehelenpark, @leahnanako, @t2tattong, @amangreen and the wonderful team at @wbtheatreventures to bring my book to Broadway," Kevin wrote on Instagram.
There's no news yet on whether or not the original cast will participate in the stage musical adaptation, but we're definitely excited about the possibility of Constance Wu reprising her role as Rachel given the way she showed off her vocal chops in Off-Broadway's Little Shop of Horrors!
There's no definite timeline yet for the production of the musical, but we'll definitely let you know once there are new developments! In the meantime, you can also watch these 10 movies and shows that give off the same vibe of the beloved romcom.
A short synopsis of Crazy Rich Asians
The 2018 film follows the story of Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), an economics professor who accompanies her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) to Singapore to attend the wedding of his childhood best friend. She then learns that not only is Nick rich, but he is crazy rich. This inevitably leads to family drama, culture clashes, and a whole lot of heartwarming and kilig moments.

A sequel, based on the follow-up novel China Rich Girlfriend, has been in development for nearly five years. The author, Kevin Kwan, recently revealed that he wanted the sequel to be filmed in the Philippines!
"It's a country with so many amazing locations, cultures, flavors, and of course, people. This is my fourth trip [to the Philippines] and it’s always a pleasure to be back. It's always surprising—I never know what will happen, but it’s always a grand adventure," he shared at the World Travel & Tourism Council Global Summit.
