Admit it: there's just something so fascinating about celebrity co-stars who date in real life. Picture it: You’re watching their reel-life characters’ love story unfold in a TV show or movie, looking at each other with lovey-dovey eyes that make you wonder, what if the chemistry’s translating IRL, too? That makes their romance even more endearing to tune into, right?
No wonder, some fans of breakout love team David Licauco and Barbie Forteza couldn’t help but ~ship~ them, albeit the knowledge that the actress has been in a long-term relationship with another Kapuso actor Jak Roberto for quite some time now.
In an interview with Bea Alonzo, David admitted to feeling ~pressured~ by the support sometimes. When asked, “Are you worried or scared when people say na kayo na lang ni Barbie? Nape-pressure ka ba?”, he answered, “Yeah,” denying at first the thought of the possibility of dating Barbie IRL crossed his mind.
The lie detector test stated the opposite, prompting David to explain himself. “Syempre I respect yung relationship nila (Barbie and Jak) and all that, pero totoo naman, what if?”
He said that Jak doesn’t get jealous of his close relationship with Barbie, and acknowledged how supportive the couple is of each other. “No, we’re friends,” David said. “Artista din kasi siya. I think he knows all the ins and outs of this industry. I think si Barbie di rin naman nagkukulang to give him assurance. Knowing Barbie, she’s a good person. I think that she’s a good partner also.”
Straight out of the success of Maria Clara at Ibarra, David and Barbie are set to star in the upcoming film That Kind of Love. They recently flew to South Korea to shoot some scenes for the rom-com, delighting their legions of fans. We can't wait for more BarDa kilig!
