Denise Julia is one of the rising artists of her generation. She's the ~baddie~ responsible for the viral hits "NVMD" and "B.A.D." But of course, as a woman breaking barriers and continuously moving forward in a male-dominated industry—Denise Julia had to endure a lot.
For Denise, it was much harder to start out and grow in the music scene as a woman. Despite the world opening up and becoming more inclusive of all genders, the R&B artist still noted experiencing hardships as a female artist.
During a press conference, Denise Julia got candid about receiving negative comments. "I think it's harder being a girl," the singer noted. She did not think twice in mentioning that people are used to giving out too much criticism, especially against women.
"There's a lot of things, a lot of words, you know, that'll be thrown at you that you… can't say that to guys," Denise pointed out.
There's nothing she can do about it. But she's not changing herself just to appease her naysayers. Aside from focusing on what matters most, Denise Julia knows how to detach herself from her public image.
There's a difference between Denise Julia the artist, and the *real* Denise Julia. "For me, the way that I cope with it is I kind of have this [mentality], 'Denise' is like my alter ego," she explained. "But when I'm with my friends, when I'm with people close to me, I'm actually really sweet, I'm not a "baddie" like…the way that I portray [myself] when I'm Denise Julia."
The singer continues to remind herself—and other social media stars—the value of maintaining boundaries. "It's important to maintain and detach yourself from [social media], 'cause that's work, you know, that's you as a public figure."

Denise Julia on embracing all forms of love
ICYDK, Denise Julia has been very vocal about her sexuality. In a tweet, she shared that people knew she was bisexual back when she was just starting her career.
In January 2024, the singer proudly proclaimed that she is pansexual. "i fall inlove regardless of someone’s gender/sexuality… if i love you, i love you, [sic]" she wrote in a tweet.
It was also this year when she released a music video for the song "Sugar N' Spice." In her words, it is a song that celebrates a woman's love.
"This song reflects my belief that love is love, and everyone should be free to love whomever they choose. This message isn’t just for the queer community; it’s for everyone who believes in love, no matter its form. I want to share the beautiful experience of falling for a woman, something I treasure so deeply. I’ve never been so excited for a music video to come out, and I hope you celebrate love with me in all its beautiful forms," Denise said.
Just a week ago, the viral artist teased a new 4-minute song that's about to drop this 2024—which hopefully means sometime soon! We're excited about what's next for you, Denise Julia!
