French influencer Maria Travel is receiving flak after bumping into IU at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
On May 26, the Koreeda Hirokazu-directed movie Broker was first screened at the esteemed festival. Its cast members—including IU, Song Kang Ho (who won Best Actor for his role in the film), Gang Dong Won, and Lee Joo Young—attended the red carpet event.
It was a great day for IU's fans until a video of Maria shouldering her went viral online. It showed how the influencer didn't look back at her and continued walking as if nothing happened. On the other hand, the Hallyu superstar handled the incident with grace and even smiled after it happened.
Fans soon discovered Maria's Instagram account and they left numerous comments asking her to say sorry. The influencer then posted a short apology video on her IG stories and explained that it was not her intention to be rude to IU. She also tagged her on the post.
Maria also shared the direct message she sent to IU where she expressed her regret but fans are not having any of it. They feel like it's insincere since she did not apologize right away, and the video can only be seen for 24 hours. The influencer continues to receive hate comments on her IG posts, and one of them reads: "What you did shows that you think you are more important than other people. You have no respect, you have no class, who do you think you are?" Another fan wrote, "You made a big mistake lady. You have to reflect on yourself."
As of writing, Maria has limited the comments on her Instagram photos.
