Just when you thought you’ve moved on from the world of Westeros, it seems there’s a new show in the works to reel you back in. You heard that right, Game of Thrones is getting a prequel titled House of the Dragon!  

Announced on October 29,  the upcoming show’s 10 episodes will stage a deep dive into the House of Targaryens' history, and will be set 300 years before the events of Game of ThronesHBO has already ordered the show straight to series, which will be based on George R.R. Martin’s 2019 novel release Fire and Blood.

According to the Game of Thrones’ official Facebook page, House of the Dragon will be co-created and written by George and Ryan Condal. Partnering with Ryan as showrunner is Miguel Sapochnik, who’s also set to direct additional episodes for the series. Miguel notably won an Emmy Award in 2016 for directing "The Battle of the Bastards" episode. 

The Facebook announcement was accompanied by a new concept poster with the tagline Fire Will Reign.
