From slaying the fashion runways in Paris, Heart Evangelista now ascends as the new President ofSenate Spouses Foundation Inc. (SSFI), bringing a fresh perspective in her new leadership position.
In an Instagram post, the actress and fashion icon penned her message of hope and commitment to the new role. With open arms, she welcomes the responsibility of collaborating with the community to uplift the lives of Filipino people.
“The legacies left by all the ladies before me, a treasure of stories and testaments of service to the nation is something that encourages me to continue what they have started- to make a difference and to inspire not only SSFl members but also individuals and groups who have the power to do something in improving the lives of people around us,” Heart addressed in her message.
In an ambush interview, Heart disclosed that the new role is definitely a different world from where she was but vows to continue the projects started by her predecessor and focus more on women and children.
"Even if it’s not my world, I won’t be doing the same thing. So you won’t be expecting me to be going to certain things just to take pictures. I really want to do something and continuously make a change na hindi lang siya para lang artista na nilagay sa ganitong posisyon. I wanna work. So I'm excited in a sense," the actress said.

Understanding The Role Of A President Of The Senate Spouses Foundation Inc.
SSFI was established in 1987 and is composed of the spouses of senators. Automatically, whoever is the spouse of the current Senate President becomes the President of the SSFI, which explains why Heart is the new President.
The goal of the foundation is to be deeply involved in socio-civic activities such as “building homes for the elderly, conducting medical and dental missions, gift-giving and feeding programs for street children and the needy in marginalized communities and carrying-out relief operations during disasters, among others.” It is aimed to specifically champion the well-being of the elderly, the marginalized communities, and the protection of women and children.
Typically, spouses are assigned specific sectors to focus on.
