Heart Evangelista recently revealed a personal and emotional chapter of her life—a never-before-seen experience of motherhood, pregnancy, and loss. Heart showed vulnerability and strength as she recounted the trauma of her pregnancies and miscarriages, sharing the life lessons she's gained along the way.
In her show Heart World, the actress and fashion icon disclosed that motherhood was never a part of her plans growing up. Heart admitted she associated having a baby with overwhelming responsibilities and felt unprepared for them. However, her perspective shifted after she married her husband, Senator Chiz Escudero. The couple started trying for a baby and, within two months, Heart found out she was pregnant—unexpectedly with twins.
"I had twins. Nagulat pa nga ako kasi may lahi kaming kambal, and si Chiz din, mayroon din silang lahing kambal," Heart revealed. Unfortunately, joy turned to sorrow when Heart was diagnosed with Vanishing Twin Syndrome, a condition in which one twin is lost in the early stages of pregnancy. While this complication initially left one baby intact, Heart faced more devastating news four months later during a routine ultrasound.
"Four months into the pregnancy, I was getting the ultrasound, and there was no heartbeat. I can say that now without crying kasi parang tumibay na yung loob ko," she said, bravely recounting the experience.
Heart described the trauma of having to carry the fetus for another two months because the doctors did not want to do an induced abortion, instead opting for a natural process. During this time, Heart carried on with her public life, attending New York and Paris Fashion Weeks, all while grappling with her loss in private.
"They wanted me to pass it out naturally," Heart explained. "I was doing Fashion Week, and people thought I was having a good time. I did New York, I did Paris pa nga, and akala nila okay lang ako. Pero may dinadala pa akong bata." Heart recounted the heart-wrenching moment of wearing a dress with a tight belt during these events, hoping it would help her pass the baby.
"I really didn't want to be pregnant after that because parang inisip ko, [parang] mabait naman ako, bakit ganon?" Heart questioned.
Heart Evangelista Shares Her Journey Of Being A Mother
After Heart’s emotional and painful journey with pregnancy losses, she and her husband Chiz decided to try surrogacy. However, their two attempts at surrogacy were unsuccessful, with the embryos showing a heartbeat but failing to develop into a full pregnancy.
Heart shared how devastating this loss was, revealing that she felt it might have been her final chance to become a mother. "Ngayon that's why sinasabi ko blessing yung mga children sa akin kasi, biruin mo, ito pala yung mga mangyayari sa akin. Alam na ni Lord kaya binigyan niya ako noon dalawa," Heart expressed with emotion, acknowledging the lessons she's learned from the painful experiences.
Heart admitted feeling heartbroken after the failed surrogacy attempts. She had dreamed of having children to share her life with, through all its highs and lows.

Yet, despite these hardships, Heart remained resilient and found strength in the love she received from her family. She may not have had a child of her own, but she considers her husband's children, Chesi and Quino Escudero, as her own. While their relationship may have felt a little awkward at first, the bond they've built over time has grown strong.

Aside from her relationship with Chiz’s children, Heart's love for animals also plays an important role in her life. She has continued to pour her love into her dogs, adopting them regardless of their breed or origin. This advocacy for animals has become a source of joy and fulfillment for Heart.
