Heaven Peralejo shared an important lesson she learned from portraying Me-Ann in the upcoming erotic-thriller Nanahimik Ang Gabi which also stars veteran actors Ian Veneracion and Mon Confiado.
The upcoming film, set for release on December 25, 2022, and is an official entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), tells the tale of the covert relationship between a sugar daddy (played by Ian as Chief) and his sugar baby (played by Heaven).
Before we get into the deets, what exactly is a sugar baby? According to this article from Cosmpolitan, a sugar daddy and sugar baby relationship is complex, and resembles a typical boyfriend-girlfriend relationship but with an added financial incentive. Most often, the relationship usually involves a man dating a younger woman who is not financially stable and has less power. Meanwhile, the sugar daddy is usually older and richer–and has more power.
In the official trailer of Nanahimik Ang Gabi, Ian and Heaven share several *steamy* scenes such as kissing, Me-Ann sitting on Chief's lap, and the two about to engage in BDSM.
During a press conference for the upcoming film, Heaven said, "Sa generation namin umiingay yung 'I wanna be a sugar baby,' Glamorous life. This film kasi, it sends a message that kung sugar baby ka, you also have to face the consequences. And those consequences, sometimes, hindi ka ready. Hindi mo alam na malala pala. Every choice you make in life, laging may consequences whether good or bad."
Talking about her steamy scenes in the film, Heaven shared that Ian made her feel comfortable on set. She said, "He made me feel so comfortable around him. Hindi ako off-cam na kumakandong. It's more like since we're comfortable with each other, we get to laugh at each others' jokes. Yung pagkandong, it's work. It's not malicious sa personal life. We have set the boundaries very clearly."
Ian said they had to do acting exercises to make the job easier. The actor said, "Minsan, nagsusubok kami mag-converse in character. We'd have conversations as her character and me as my character. Para lang masanay."
"Yung character ko talagang dark na malisyoso," Ian added. "Kahit kumandong siya, andoon din ako sa mode na in character din. At saka siya, kumandong naman siya not as Heaven, e. Nakikita ko si Me-Ann. Nakikita ko yung innocence niya. Sakto sa character niya. Kaya siguro wala rin kaming ilangan kasi malinaw sa amin na we're both in character."
