Jericho Rosales is coming back to the big screen with an astounding role. And while he's just as excited for everyone to see it, he also opens up about feeling the pressure of playing such an important character in Filipino history.
The 45-year-old actor posted a video teaser of his newest role—and he's looking very Manuel Quezon. Yes, as in the second official president of the Philippines.
Echo's caption was simple. It was just a couple of happy emojis and the Philippine flag before bearing the title of the film, Quezon. The film is produced by TBA Studios, and it's directed by the renowned Filipino director, Jerrold Tarog. Jerrold is also responsible for the critically acclaimed historical films, Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.
In a press statement, Echo shares how the film will offer a fresh perspective on the former president, portraying him not just as a historical figure, but as someone with depth. "I feel so honored to be with this team. Coming to a script like this which is so potent and so entertaining, I feel so lucky and happy. Here, you will see Quezon as a person. He's not written as a hero. He is cunning, he is charming, he is intelligent."
Echo also described how pressured and excited he is to play Quezon in a biopic. "Quezon is such an interesting character to play; there are so many things I can put into the role to build Quezon as a character. That adds to the pressure, but at the same time I am very excited," the actor said.
TBA Studios also revealed that Echo auditioned for the film and proved just how worthy he is to portray a powerful character onscreen. The production company also posted the official poster for the film with the caption, "Meet the man of the nation."
Everything We Know About Jericho Rosales's Quezon
Quezon is posed as a biographical historical film set during the Commonwealth era of the Philippines, from 1935 to 1944. It depicts the story of Manuel L. Quezon as a lawyer and a soldier before his reign as president. The film is recognized as Echo's much-awaited return to the big screen. His last film was the romantic movie, The Girl in the Orange Dress.
Starring alongside Echo in Quezon are Mon Confiado and Benjamin Alves. Mon will reprise his role from Heneral Luna as Emilio Aguinaldo, while Benjamin who was part of another historical film from Direk Jerrold, Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, is coming back as the young Manuel L. Quezon.
More renowned actors joined the cast, including Karylle who plays the role of Aurora Quezon, Manuel's wife. Romnick Sarmenta, JC Santos, and Cris Villanueva have also been cast as Sergio Osmeña, Manuel Roxas, and Joven Hernando (the only fictional role in the film), respectively.
Quezon is slated to be released in cinemas in the Philippines and around the world this 2025.
