Kaye Abad Confronts Her Insecurities About Her Personal Appearance
Kaye Confesses To Her Lack Of Confidence
Kaye is this week’s guest on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda. She talked about her newest film, A Journey, and looked back on past crushes and loves including Paolo Contis, John Lloyd Cruz, and Patrick Garcia. She shared her insights on marriage and her love story with her husband Paul Jake Castillo.
She also opened up about her insecurities when it comes to her looks. A hint of it came early on in the interview. Boy talked about how Kaye is the ligawin type as a few fellow celebrities courted Kaye back in the heyday of Tabing Ilog. Kaye noted how despite all this attention, she wasn’t so confident about being a morena, and said “Kung mag-aartista ako ngayon, komedyante siguro ako. Buti na lang yung standard ni Mr. M medyo mababa.” Mr. M, refers to director and talent manager Johnny Manahan.
Boy picked up the topic once again later on in the program. Kaye admitted point-blank that she’s insecure and doesn’t find herself pretty. Boy responded in disbelief and asked what makes Kaye insecure.
She noted that her insecurity is a recurring topic. "Tito Boy, everytime magge-guest ako sa 'yo, 'yun 'yung topic natin na hindi talaga. [...] Sinasabi nila, 'Kunyari ka lang.' Hindi talaga. I would look my face sa mirror always na... Hindi ako panget. Hindi ako napapangitan sa sarili ko, hindi ko sinasabing panget ako pero hindi ako... Hindi ako yung talagang maganda.”
Aww!
Boy asked afterward, “If you were to look like someone, who comes to mind first?"
Kaye replied, “Iza Calzado. Sinabi nga ni Mo Twister 'yun eh na ako raw ang ugly version ni Iza Calzado at sinabi ko kay Iza Calzado 'yun. At tatanggapin ko 'yun, at least ugly version.”
Boy reminded Kaye that beauty isn’t just skin deep. “Pero I was about to tell you na magkahulma halos ang kulay, merong datingan na ganun e. She's a beautiful, beautiful woman inside and out."
Kaye, you’re beautiful! You're not an ugly version of anyone!
On Beauty and Confidence
In recent years, the discussion of beauty continues to broaden. It’s a process of unlearning the harmful beauty standards of the past. Celebrities, including Nadine Lustre in a recent video feature, are more outspoken about such topics.
Cosmopolitan Women of Influence 2024 awardee Iza noted, "I was done fearing a photo coming out that was unretouched, that would show my stretch marks, and then having some troll from the Internet use that as a weapon against me and make me feel bad about myself."
