In the latest episode of Toni Gonzaga's Toni Talks, longtime couple Kristine Hermosa and Oyo Sotto recounted the *crazy* story of how they got engaged.
"Yung proposal niyo kakaiba, eh," said Toni. Did you know that they weren't officially a couple before getting engaged?
"Lagi ko siya nakakasama. Lagi ko siya nakakausap pero walang commitment," Oyo recalled. "Walang label."
The two first met on the set of Enteng Kabisote: OK Ka Fairy Ko... The Legend in 2004. They reunited in 2006 for the third installment of the movie. Soon after that, they started hanging out as friends. According to Kristine, Oyo would also invite her to family gatherings.
When asked about what made him decide to suddenly propose, Oyo shared: "Naalala ko kasi before [the proposal], kinakausap ako nung pastor namin na 'Oyo, siya yung lagi mong kasamang babae. Ano bang gusto mo mangyari?'"
Admittedly, Oyo said, "Hindi ko rin talaga alam." He continued, "Sabi niya kasi kung wala kang plans, 'wag mo nang ituloy. Sasaktan mo lang yung babae. Sasaktan mo lang din yung sarili mo.' Siya yung nag-push sa'kin na magpakasal."
After having that talk with the pastor, Oyo had an engagement ring made for Kristine. He said, "May engagement ring na. Dala dala ko nung nag bible study kami pero hindi pa talaga ako sure kung ibibigay ko na. Basta dala ko lang..."
"Isang araw, nagising ako, malapit na mag birthday siya no'n. Parang may bumulong sa'kin, 'Propose ka na,' he recalled. "It was very unplanned."
The proposal happened during one of their bible study sessions, which also happened to be Kristine's birthday. Oyo gave a speech before popping the question. While everyone was cheering for them, Kristine ran away.
"Tumakbo ako. Natakot ako," she revealed. "Kinabahan talaga ako... Nag tago ako sa likod. Nag dasal ako. Sabi ko, 'Lord, bakit ganito? Hindi naman kami, ah. Bakit siya nagpo-propose?" After composing herself, Kristine said that she want back and said: "Sige, yes!"
Looking back, the actress said that it was the best decision she has made in her life.
The couple has been married for 11 years, and they now have five kids together!
