MTRCB chairperson Lala Sotto does not mind the criticism she's been receiving, following the agency's suspension of It's Showtime.
Earlier in September 2023, the noontime program was suspended for 12 days following an incident it deemed "indecent", wherein hosts Vice Ganda and Ion Perez licked icing off their fingers.
Since then, netizens, especially fans of the show, have taken to bashing Lala for the decision, calling her "biased," as her father Tito Sotto III is a host of It's Showtime's rival program, EAT.
Despite "inhibiting" from voting on the ruling, Lala had received enormous criticism from the public. During a press conference, Lala expressed how she felt being a Sotto shouldn't be received negatively.
“I truly believe that me being a Sotto or being my father’s daughter shouldn’t be taken against me," Lala said. "Instead, it should be taken positively since I’m someone who grew up in, loves, and understands the industry."
Lala went on to share how growing up in "public scrutiny" made her "unbothered."
“Bashing is not new to us, to me. You all know what they’ve said about my father in the past. I thank God I am unbothered."
ABS-CBN filed a motion for reconsideration regarding the said suspension, which was denied by MTRCB.
On September 23, EAT host Joey de Leon made headlines after making a "lubid" remark on the show, angering netizens believing it was insensitive to those suffering from mental health problems. Amid a clamor for Lala to resign, the bureau said it would review the involved segment of the show.
