Leila Alcasid and Mito Fabie a.k.a Curtismith have definitely cleared the air with Leila's father, Ogie Alcasid.
"He respects (my) decision, my autonomy as a person, as an adult," Leila told PEP.ph in an interview. She said this in response to Ogie's recent interview detailing how he at first disapproved of Leila living with her boyfriend.
Leila referred to her dad's initial disapproval as "a little bit of misunderstanding" but they have long resolved the matter. "We're really good now," Leila clarified.
"I mean, he has every right to feel the way he feels. And we talked about it, and there was definitely a little bit of misunderstanding way back then," the 25-year-old artist added.
She thinks that their previous disagreement might have come from the fact that it was a big transition not just for Leila but also for Ogie as a parent. "I think, you know, it's definitely difficult for parents when these big life transitions happen."
But Leila praised her father for effectively handling everything. "He has adjusted really, really well. I'm really grateful that, you know, he treats me like an adult."
More than anything else, Leila grew very appreciative of her dad's efforts to come to terms with her ideals and decisions when it comes to her relationship. "But what I really appreciate about my dad is he understands me... and everything is much better now."
In fact, Leila revealed that Ogie has maintained a good connection with her partner. "He's super close with my boyfriend. Mito has traveled with us."
Earlier this month, Ogie disclosed his disapproval of his daughter's living arrangements with her boyfriend of five years. It was during the pandemic that Leila and Curtismith decided to move in together as a result of their strengthening relationship as a couple.
"I told her, "I didn't like what you did because it's something that I wish you talked to me about before but that's already done. Nandiyan na 'yan," the singer-songwriter shared.
Despite his initial reaction to his daughter's decision, Ogie said that he had been understanding of the situation and respected Leila's disposition. "So you wanna face it like an adult? Then, face life like an adult," Ogie recalled telling Leila.
