In case you missed it, Dame Maggie Smith has passed away at the age of 89. Fans and of course the OG Harry Potter cast have nothing but praise for the actress who has spent her life portraying unforgettable characters.
Maggie played the role of Minerva McGonagall a.k.a. Professor McGonagall for Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and the other kids from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Aside from that, Maggie was also prominently known as Violet Crawley in Downtown Abbey.
Her sons, Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens, broke the sad news to the public. As stated, she passed away last September 27 in London. "She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother," the family's statement read.
Harry Potter cast remember Maggie Smith in IG posts
Along with Harry Potter fans, a.k.a Potterheads, some of the cast have posted their grievances for the British actress on social media. Tom Felton, who played the cunning Draco Malfoy in the famous fantasy film series, expressed his gratitude to the actress who became a guiding light for them during the Harry Potter days.
"Deeply saddened to wake up to the news of Maggie's passing. There quite simply was no one like her," Tom began in his post. He continued, "Thank you for looking after us from literally day one."
It's been over a decade but Tom can still remember how he couldn't stop laughing during one scene with Maggie. Recalling it became a very fond memory for the actor and for every fan reading his post. "Thank you for not getting me kicked off the set when I couldn’t stop giggling during your transfiguration class. Thank you for showing us the way. Raise your wands x," he concluded in his post.

Rupert Grint also shared a heartfelt message for Maggie and her family. Rupert played another fave Harry Potter character, Ron Weasley. Rupert described Maggie as a hilarious and kind person.
"Heartbroken to hear about Maggie. She was so special, always hilarious, and always kind." Rupert added, "I feel incredibly lucky to have shared a set with her and particularly lucky to have shared a dance. I'll miss you Maggie. Sending all my love to her family."
Fans in the comments section also remembered Maggie through her famous lines. One wrote down a memorable scene between the two characters:
Professor McGonagall: "Why is it when something happens, it is always you three?"
Ron Weasley: "Believe me Professor, I've been asking myself the same question for six years."
Rest in love, Maggie," the comment read.
The first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was released on November 2001. The blockbuster movie franchise ended in 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
