Maris Racal is impressing us once again and we're just at the trailer! The first look for her upcoming film, Sunshine, was recently released and fans are already brimming with excitement for the actress.
Maris uploaded her live reaction to the trailer when she first saw it. For her, the experience of filming Sunshine was truly remarkable. "Di ako makapaniwala na natapos na namin ang pelikulang ‘Sunshine’ pagkatapos ng halos isang taon," she began in her post. There were happy tears on Maris' face as she focused on watching the trailer.
More than herself, she praised and gave the recognition to the production team that's been on top of everything. "Saludo sa mga bumubuo ng pelikulang ito, lalo na kay Direk Tonet na ilang taon itong trinabaho. Hanga ako sa dedikasyon at puso ng mga kasama ko rito," Maris wrote.
The film's production company, Project 8 Projects, uploaded the official trailer on their social media accounts with the logline, "A young gymnast finds out she is pregnant on the week of the national team tryouts. On her way to a seller of illegal abortion drugs, she meets a mysterious girl who eerily thinks and talks like her."
Maris portrays the young gymnast named Sunshine Francisco. In January 10, 2024, Maris briefly talked about the film and how great its impact was to her as a person and as an actress. She recalled how she said yes to the film the very moment it was pitched to her back in 2020.
She happily posted about it after they were granted additional funding from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). "Iyak ako nang iyak after ko mabasa ang script (at kahit na ilang ulit ko siyang basahin, iyak pa rin ako haha) cut to ito na, patapos na kaming mag shoot at na grant pa nga ng funding (thank you so much @fdcpofficial!!!)" the actress shared.
She proudly highlighted that the film taught her so many things as an actress, and it's something that she will treasure in her life. "Ito yung project na magiging proud ako na nagawa ko dahil sa sobrang ganda ng mensahe. Thank you direk ako napili mo :) kinda bittersweet na we are almost done filming," her post read.
Maris added, "Sa film na 'to, I’ve grown so much as an actress at forever kong babaunin ang natutunan ko dito."
Fast forward to now, months after they've finished filming, the team of Sunshine also announced that the film is lined up as a part of the Toronto International Film Festival this year.
"Para ito sa kababaihan at sa kanilang karapatang magpasya para sa sarili at sa kanilang katawan," Maris said in her recent IG post.

Everyone's very excited for Maris. After entering stardom through her Pinoy Big Brother stint in 2014, Maris has explored almost all types of genres already with her numerous projects through the years.
With or without a love team, Maris strives to reach new heights as an actress, and Sunshine truly did wonders for her—even before its release. Her fellow celebrities are also out there celebrating for her. Kathryn Bernardo expressed her excitement for the film. While another seasoned actress, Eugene Domingo, also came to her comments section saying, "You should attend the screening [insert the clapping emojis here]."

Over on the X (formerly Twitter), fans were raving about Maris, so much so that her viral laptop meme from years back was brought back to life. In a now-deleted post, an online citizen actually asked if she was the actress who created the viral "crying with laptop" meme. ICYDK, Maris is an active celebrity on X, she's known for interacting with fans there.
Maris responded to the question and said, "I knew these laptop memes will haunt me forever... luv it."
Fans were so excited about Maris' new film, which for them clearly stands out among her filmography. It shows a new side of her, plus the fact that it will be screening internationally.
Another fan also wrote to Maris, suggesting that she should be present at the TIFF screening. "I hope you go to TIFF kasi if not, it will also haunt you forever...," the comment read. This is despite knowing that Maris does have a tight schedule these days. ICYMI, Maris's next project, Incognito, has already been confirmed and promotions and filming for the series seem to be starting soon.
Nonetheless, Maris gave the fan a positive answer, noting that she would try to be there as much as possible. "Nilalaban po. Pls send good energy!" She even manifested it with her candle emojis.
