Last year's Miss Korea pageant contestants drew significant attention and criticism when their pageant head shots—which all looked jarringly similar—made the rounds on the Internet.
Although the contestants defended themselves from accusations of having all received the same plastic surgery treatments, crediting Photoshop and makeup instead (so while they all look the same, it was just in those photos, so whatever), it looks like this year's batch of contestants have gone a different route to ensure everyone recognizes them for the varied, distinct people they are: They don't all look the same, not even after post-production on their photos.
Great job to everyone involved! After all, Korea's a small country, but not that small. Let's get some diversity going.
This year's winner is 22-year-old Seoyeon Kim, a student at Ewha Womans University in Seoul and an aspiring news anchor, whom The Korea Herald notes "boasts [a] Western-style figure" (presumably meaning she's taller and not as skinny as the other contestants, because they list her height and weight right after that comment). I guess all battles can't be won in one pageant.
