Former Miss Universe president Paula Shugart is not backing down from present Miss Universe owner Anne Jakrajutatip's allegations against her. Plus, it seems that a part of the Miss Universe community is wholeheartedly with Paula on this one.
On February 19, 2024, Paula shared on Instagram her dismay and absolute aversion against Anne. Paula claimed that Anne had been implying false information about Paula's assumed corruption and "under the table" procedures. Moreover, she accuses Anne of being responsible for several news alleging some Miss Universe titleholders to have "bought" their crowns.
As Paula stated, she would have chosen to step back from the Miss Universe spotlight, if not for the current organization's president's slanderous remarks. "Recent false and outrageous comments made by Miss Universe owner Anne Jakrajutatip impugning my character have compelled me to break my silence," she began in her IG post.
"Normally, I would choose to ignore such assertions but, by suggesting that I am corrupt and took money 'under the table' to secure placements in Miss Universe competitions, Jakrajutatip not only defames me, but she also discredits the women who have won the Miss Universe crown by implying their titles were 'bought' and not earned by merit," Paula continued.

The former Miss Universe president strongly condemns Anne's behavior as it degrades the pageantry's longstanding global reputation. Now, Paula is positively considering moving forward using legal actions against the current Miss Universe owner.
She noted, "I have no intention or need to engage in drama on social media and I will not do so. Anyone who knows me knows the truth and what I stand for. I will let my years of work with some truly incredible women speak for itself."

Messages of support and determined testimonies for Paula immediately poured over on social media, especially on her Instagram account.
Although they have yet to issue an official public statement regarding the issue, former Miss Universe titleholders Pia Wurtzbach, Catriona Gray, along with Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee have liked Paula's IG post. They were among the thousands of netizens who have liked and read Paula's sentiments.
Other Miss Universe queens have also clearly stated their support for Paula who has been nothing but caring and respectful to the community they have built through the pageantry.

Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan expressed her disappointment with those who "try to discredit" Paula's integrity for the organization. Olivia also took the chance to thank Paula for "protecting" all Miss Universe winners during her time.
"Grateful that you are speaking to protect your reputation, but also to protect all the winners during your tenure that fought so hard to earn their title," the American beauty queen stated.
Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere did not also hold back in supporting Paula. Iris described Paula as the loving and caring Miss Universe president who had taught her a lot about dedication and happiness in the work that they do.
"I had the chance to learn so much from you, and you dedicated so much time, outside your work hour to make me feel comfortable, confident, happy. You didn't work for Miss Universe, you lived for Miss Universe," Iris told Paula in her comment.
It was during the last Miss Universe 2023 finals competition when Paula stepped down from her post as the organization's head.
