Fans of the Royal Family may be eager to watch the upcoming new season of Netflix's The Crown, but the series has drawn criticism amid allegations that it has distorted the truth.
According to a report by BBC, Dame Judi Dench (who has a close relationship with now King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla) and former UK Prime Minister Sir John Major previously expressed concerns about the drama's accuracy.
Dame Judi feared that viewers would confuse the show's scenes and portrayals as truthful depictions, while John claimed a certain scene was "a barrel-load of malicious nonsense". The scene being referred to—of plotting to oust Queen Elizabeth—includes him (as portrayed by English actor Jonny Lee Miller) engaging in a discussion with Prince Charles (Dominic West) about Queen Elizabeth's abdication.
Netflix, which recently released the Season 5 trailer on YouTube, has added a disclaimer that describes the series as a "fictional dramatisation" "inspired by real events". The new season is set in the 1990s, which shows Princess Diana up against the Royal Family.
The Crown Season 5 drops on Netflix on November 9, Wednesday.
