Pauline Amelnckx just did the country proud: She represented the Philippines in the recently concluded Miss Supranational 2023.
The beauty queen was awarded the 1st runner-up title, losing the crown to Miss Ecuador, Andrea Aguilera.
Dismayed netizens couldn't help but react to the loss, comparing Pauline and Andrea's answers in the Q&A portion. Here are their individual answers to the question, "What makes a good brand ambassador for this organization?"
Pauline replied, "It would be dedication—dedication to this journey, dedication to the people who have brought her up to this journey, and dedication of course with the organization she'll end up working with."
"This is such a beautiful experience. And she has to be someone who will bring people together. Someone who knows that this is not a one-woman journey. We all have our differences, but we also realize that we have so much in common. And we are now gathered here on this stage transcending our own borders, bringing nations together."

Andrea, on the other hand, responded, "Oh my god! For me, [working] with Miss Supranational Organization would be the greatest honor of my life. I could travel around the world carrying its legacy. I would really love to start my own foundation to help single moms to find employment."
"But one of the most important things for me, the Miss Supranational platform, makes me accomplish one of the most, the biggest dreams of my life. This is studying medicine [with] my own funds, become a doctor, and continue helping people. Thank you very much."

Netizens felt Pauline's answer addressed the question more accurately and was more befitting of a Miss Supranational. In fact, "Pauline" was a trending topic on Twitter on July 15.
"Yung kalibre ni Pauline Amelinckx is once in a lifetime," read one netizen's tweet. "Level siya ni Pia at Catriona, graceful, [has a] brain to deliver [a] meaningful answer, the FACE CARD, the DELIVERY. Mahal na mahal ka ng pageant world, mhie, pati ng Pilipinas! You should have won that crown."

"IDK, but I feel bad because each time she competes, we just know she deserves more," wrote another netizen. "Hays. Not to disregard or downplay everything she has achieved, of course! She has been amazing! It's just that Pauline has always been worthy of a crown."

Content creator and former Miss Universe Philippines contender Ayn Bernos also pointed out that Pauline had competed in three pageants already: Miss Universe Philippines 2020 (placing third-runner-up behind Rabiya Mateo, Miss Universe Philippines 2022 (crowned Miss Universe Philippines Charity 2022, third to Celeste Cortesi), and Miss Universe Philippines 2023 (finishing Top 5; the winner was Michelle Dee). Ayn lauded Pauline for her perseverance.
"Remember, Pauline competed in three editions," read Ayn's tweet. "But in 2021, she was STILL there, hosting behind the scenes. The last four years of her life [were] dedicated to this dream."

Amid Pauline's failure to bring home the crown, Miss Universe PH national director Shamcey Supsup made sure to applaud her efforts.
"It may not have been the result we wanted, but I am so proud of how @paulineamelinckx gave us a good fight! I really thought we had it in the bag, but no matter what, you are the winner in our hearts. Thank you for representing the Philippines."
No matter what the outcome, we're proud of you, Pauline!
