Park So Dam's agency, Artist Company, released a statement saying that the Parasite actress is diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer.
Based on an article by Soompi, the entertainment label has announced that she will not be attending the promotions for her new movie, Special Delivery, to focus on her treatment. The crime action film will premiere on January 12, 2022.

According to the US National Cancer Institute (NCI), papillary thyroid cancer is the most common form of thyroid cancer and can occur before the age of 45. It "forms in follicular cells in the thyroid and grows in small finger-like shapes." Artist Company stated that So Dam was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer during her regular health examination, and she soon underwent surgery as recommended by her doctor. As of present, she's recovering from the said illness.

Although she's disappointed that she couldn't see her fans and join the events for Special Delivery, So Dam is cheering on the premiere and her co-stars. She's also thankful for everyone who has shown their support and concern.
So Dam started her career in 2013 and has appeared in various short films. By 2015, she took home awards for her roles in The Priests and The Silenced. It was the Oscar-winning movie Parasite that catapulted her to international fame, where she portrayed the character of Kim Ki Jung aka Jessica. So Dam's most recent project is the coming-of-age K-drama, Record Of Youth. Additionally, she hosted the 26th Busan International Film Festival with Song Joong Ki last October.
We wish for your speedy recovery, So Dam!
