Before he became the leading matinee idol of the 90s, Piolo Pascual had to leave his acting career behind when he flew abroad to join his mother in the U.S. He stayed in the States for two years—an experience that the actor reveals to have “shaped” him into the man he is today.
“I was working odd jobs because in the states you have to do everything,” the 45-year-old reveals in his interview with Korina Sanchez. He used to work as an ER representative in a hospital while working as a security guard for the Oscars.
“Una akong pinasok sa hospital, I was doing midnight shifts sa [emergency room], admitting patients. Kumukuha ako ng information [nila],” he shares. “On the side, I was working as a security guard for the Oscars. It was a good experience for me because I saw all the Hollywood stars.”
Piolo returned to the Philippines to continue his acting career when he turned 21, and he has his mom to thank for the hardworking actor he is today.
He adds, “[My mom] was very practical, she had to raise all of us. I really saw that hard work is important. I learned it from my mom, nothing comes easy, nothing happens overnight, so you have to work for it.”
From working as a security guard on the red carpet, to walking the red carpet himself. You have truly come a long way, Piolo!
