We're calling it: Rabin Angeles is one of the rising actors of his generation. It's no secret that his popularity continues to soar these days, and that's because of his undeniable charm manifested through the series, Ang Mutya ng Section E.
The teen series is Rabin's breakthrough project. It catapulted him to stardom, resulting in a dedicated fanbase not just in the Philippines, but around the world. Plus, his TikTok followers are now at 4.1 million, while his Instagram followers has risen to 1.5 million as of writing. "Ang Mutya ng Section E po ang talagang nagbigay sa akin ng break. Dito po talaga ako mas nakilala," he told PEP.ph in an interview.
The 20-year-old actor stars alongside fellow Viva artists Ashtine Olviga and Andres Muhlach, who are also successfully making a name for themselves because of the series. In fact, Viva is mounting a grand fan meeting with the cast of Ang Mutya ng Section E on May 1 and 2—and the first day of the fan meeting is officially sold out!
Speaking to PEP.ph, Rabin divulged how overwhelmed he is but also overjoyed with the attention he's getting nowadays. "Masaya po ako dahil unti-unti na akong nakikilala ng mga tao. Overwhelmed po ako sa mga reaksiyon nila. Kahit saan po ako magpunta, Yuri ang tawag nila sa akin. Mas marami na rin po akong nagiging kaibigan," he expressed.
He furthered, "'Yung fans ko po, dati iilan lang pero ngayon ang dami na po. Hindi lamang sa Pilipinas, pati na rin sa ibang parte ng mundo. Nakakagulat at nakakataba po talaga ng puso."
After all, this has been Rabin's dream for so long. He briefly talked about how he pursued to be an actor through Director Jason Paul Laxamana, who's known for works like Just A Stranger, 100 Tula Para Kay Stella, Between Maybes, and more. "I was discovered by Direk Jason Paul Laxamana. Kinukulit ko siya na gusto kong maging isang artista," he shared in the interview with PEP.ph.
Rabin detailed that he would message and ask the director to take a chance on him as an actor. It took a while before the director responded to Rabin pitching himself to stardom. When the opportunity finally arrived, Rabin dedicated himself to intensive training and enrolled in several acting workshops to hone his craft.
"Finally, napansin po niya ang mga chat ko. He met up with me together with my mom and he enrolled me sa iba't ibang workshops. Kung hindi dahil sa kanya, wala ako sa showbiz," Rabin noted.

Although it wasn't the first time Rabin worked with Ashtine (the two worked together in The Ship Show), Rabin confessed that he felt quite nervous to work with Andres Muhlach. "Nung una po kinakabahan ako. Siyempre, si Andres Muhlach po yan," he said.
Now that the first season of Ang Mutya ng Section E is coming to an end, Rabin vouches how easy and comfortable it is to work with Andres. He points out how Andres feels like a brother figure for him. "Pero nung nakilala at nakasama ko na siya, parang kapatid ko na siya. Napakabait ni Andres, hindi ka maiilang kapag kasama mo siya," Rabin added.
Given that they had previously worked together on The Ship Show, Rabin disclosed how seamless his working relationship with Ashtine is from the very beginning. He expressed, "Hindi na po kami [ni Ashtine] masyadong nagkakahiyaan. Mababait at masasaya silang [Ashtine and Andres] kasama sa trabaho kaya hindi po kami nahirapan sa pag-arte."
Rabin and Ashtine are being paired as the love team, AshBin. ICYDK, this is just one of the love teams from Ang Mutya ng Section E, where Rabin plays the character of Yuri Hanamitchi, Keifer Watson's (Andres) best friend and love rival. They will fight over Ashtine's character, Jasper Jean Mariano a.k.a. Jayjay.
The final episode of Ang Mutya ng Section E will be released on April 18 on Viva's official streaming platform, VivaOne.
