Let’s be honest: Some might consider motherhood to be one of the most fulfilling milestones in a woman’s life, but it’s certainly not a walk in the park. Celebrities, just like regular humans, are not immune to the struggles, celebrating all the amazing highs and navigating the lows that come with parenthood.

Roxanne Guinoo talks about motherhood
Case in point: Roxanne Guinoo, who has been married to her non-showbiz husband Elton Yap since 2011. The couple has three kids together, and their firstborn is now fifteen. In an interview, Roxanne pulled back the curtains on being a young mom at 23 and how she has grown since then. "Hindi ako nagdalawang-isip don, na i-abort or anything. Talagang willing akong harapin. Hindi siya naging madali saken, pero alam ko may pagkukulang din ako sa part na yun. Bago nangyari, daming struggles sa buhay ko, career, from past heartbreaks." she shared in an interview with Toni Gonzaga.
Committing to someone like Elton is something that she had hoped for. "Tapos pinagdasal ko yun na, Lord, bigay mo sakin yung right person, pag na-meet ko 'tong tao na to, siya na talaga makakasama ko habambuhay."
She shared how she responded when she learned about her first pregnancy. "Kaya nung dumating si Reine, nung tinanong ako, 'Anong plano mo? Pano career mo?' [Sabi ko], 'Tutuloy ko po.' Di ako natakot. Para sa anak, gagawin mo syempre lahat. Nag-decide ako na i-focus ko talaga yung oras ko. Yung magkakaron ako ng feeling na kampante ako na, lalaki mga anak ko na kahit wala presensiya ko dyan, makakapagdesisyon ng tama mga anak ko."
She also shared that the decision to quit showbiz is something that she and Elton discussed together. "Sabi ko nga kay Elton, 'Kaya mo naman mag-provide diba?' So eto muna, yung pagpapalaki, yung tutok, ibibigay ko sa mga anak ko. Nag-agree naman kami dun. Meet halfway kami. Kasi ayokong ma-miss yung taon na nadun ako. Yung formative years, very important diba? Na 0 to 10 andyan ka. Kasi pag andyan yung ugali at wala ka, yung presence mo, wala na, di mo na mabe-break yun."
She then narrated one instance when she rubbed elbows with veteran actress Coney Reyes, and caught up with her. "I remember nakita ko si Tita Connie. Sabi niya, 'Roxanne, kamusta ka?' 'Eto tita, nag-quit ng very light.'"
"Sabi niya, 'Alam mo tama yang ginagawa mo, you can go back anytime.' Tapos parang dun ako nabuhayaan ng konti. Kasi siyempre nasa sistema na natin yung pagiging artista, na-miss mong mag-taping. Nabitawan mo lahat yun dahil naging selfless ka para sa mga anak mo, para sa asawa mo. Baka ganto, baka ganyan, baka may gan’to na ko. May mga what if."
Toni then chimed in, "So ang gagawin ng nanay, parang di niya makita yung what ifs, tinitingnan nya yung what is. Meron akong tatlong, magagandang bata. Meron akong kumpletong pamilya. And then you will realize, you will not give up the small things for the big things. Because the small things that you have, they are the big things."
