Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber (previously Baldwin) have been in one another’s orbit for well over a decade now. We’re all probably more than aware of the on-off nature of both of their relationships with singer Justin Bieber, who is now married to Hailey. But the drama doesn’t start and end there.

Here's a timeline of the Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber situation over the years.
February 2011: Selena and Justin confirm their relationship
The pair made their red carpet debut at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in February of 2011.
May 2011: Hailey says that she’s a fan of the couple
A few months later Hailey writes, in a since-deleted tweet, "I'm for sure 100% team #Jelena." This isn’t the last time that Hailey tweeted her support for the couple.
September 2011: Hailey calls Selena and Justin’s relationship a “teenage dream”
In another since-deleted tweet, Hailey shares, "I don't care what anyone says but Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez together is the definition of a teenage dream! #word”
November 2012: Selena and Justin break up for the first time
After nearly two years together, the couple broke up in early November 2012. However, there are speculations that they may have rekindled their romance, and are back together by April 2013.
November 2014: Selena and Justin break up for a second time
Selena confirms they've split when discussing her new single 'The Heart Wants What It Wants', which is, spoiler alert, about their breakup.
December 2014: Hailey and Justin deny dating rumours
Despite fuelling romance rumors by spending New Year together, the pair insist they're just close friends. "People are crazy. I'm super single and this is my good friend u would know otherwise," Justin wrote in the caption of a picture of them together.
November 2015: Selena is reportedly serenaded by Justin
Following Selena’s breakup from music producer Zedd – who she dated briefly in 2015 – Justin is spotted serenading her at a hotel bar in Beverly Hills by singing The Temptations' 'My Girl' and his own song, 'Sorry,' which is believed to have been inspired by her.
December 2015: Justin and Hailey kiss on New Year’s Eve
Just a month later, Justin appears to confirm a romance with Hailey, posting a photo of the two of them kissing on New Year’s Eve.
January 2016: Selena says she's 'done' talking about Justin in the wake of the romance rumors with Hailey
In an interview with Rolling Stone Selena says, “honestly, what I would love to be printed is that I am so beyond done with talking about that, and him."
This is then mirrored when speaking to W Magazine the following month, when she says about her relationship with Justin, “I honestly am so done. I care about his health and well-being. But I can't do it anymore.”
February 2016: Hailey and Justin say they're 'not exclusive' and split sometime thereafter
Justin tells GQ that he doesn’t want to rush into anything with Hailey and soon after this story is published, they go their separate ways.
October 2017 - March 2018: Selena and Justin get back together – and break up – again
Justin and Selena spark more rumors after they are seen cycling together, with Selena wearing Justin’s hockey jersey, in October. They then made things Instagram official in March 2018 in celebration of Bieber’s 24th birthday. Soon thereafter, however, it is believed that the couple decided to take a break.
July 2018: Hailey and Justin get back together – and engaged
In July 2018 Justin and Hailey not only got back together but ultimately got engaged. The two went on to tie the knot at a New York City courthouse that September, as well as having a religious ceremony in South Carolina in 2019.
23rd October 2019: Selena seemingly reacts to news of the marriage in a new song
A month after the wedding, Selena makes a return to the music scene with the song 'Lose You to Love Me'.
With lyrics like, “in two months you replaced us like it was easy,” fans soon started to speculate that the song was a response to Hailey and Justin’s marriage.
23rd October 2019: Hailey faces backlash after posting an Instagram story later that day
Later that day, Hailey uploads a screenshot of the song "I'll Kill You" by Summer Walker to her Instagram Story – causing fans to wonder whether she was responding to Gomez's lyrics.
However, the model quickly shut down rumors by responding to comments online with, “Please stop with this nonsense... there is no 'response'. This is complete BS.”
24th October 2019: Selena asks fans to "be kind" after Hailey receives hate
The following day, when promoting her new single 'Look at Her Now', Selena doesn’t exactly mention Hailey by name but does say, “I do not stand for women tearing women down. I will never, ever be by that. So please be kind to everyone."
She added, "It doesn't matter what the situation is, if you're my fans don't be rude to anybody, please. Don't go off and say things that you just feel in the moment."
August 2021: Hailey likes Selena’s magazine cover on Instagram
Hailey liked a photo on Elle’s instagram showcasing Selena as its latest cover star, prompting many to believe that both women were now on good terms.
April 2022: Hailey begs fans to stop leaving comments about Selena on her social media
Hailey asks people to stop leaving comments about Selena and Justin on her social media page, in a video captioned, "This is for you guys in my comments every single time I post."
She said to the camera, "Leave me alone, at this point... I'm minding my business, I don't do anything, I don't say anything. Leave me alone, please. Enough time has gone by where it's valid to leave me alone, I beg of you truly. That's my only request, leave me alone... be miserable somewhere else."

May 2022: Selena shuts down accusations that she shaded Hailey After Selena posted a video showing off her makeup routine– shortly after Hailey shared a similar video on her own account – many began to speculate that this was a bit of a dig at Hailey. "This is why I believe in taking care of your mental health. Guys no idea what I did but I really am sorry. Zero bad intention. Deleting soon," Selena commented on her own video, according to a fan screenshot.
28th September 2022: Hailey addresses claims that she stole Justin from Selena As a guest on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, Hailey addressed claims that she had stolen Justin from Selena. "I can say, period, point blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody — that's the end of it," she revealed.
In the same interview, Hailey says that there is “no drama” with Selena. “It's all respect, it's all love," she continued, even announcing that the two had spoken since the wedding, without confirming exactly what that conversation was about.
29th September 2022: Selena seemingly responds to Hailey’s interview
The following day, while speaking about the irony of those who supposedly supported her and her beauty brand, Rare Beauty, Selena spoke out, saying, “if you support Rare, I cannot thank you enough, but know that you are also representing what it means — and that is: Words matter. Truly matter.”
16th October 2022: The two women pose together for photos
You may remember the photos that almost broke the internet, when both women were in the same room at the second Academy Museum of Motion Pictures annual gala.
The pair posed together for a series of photos, which many assumed the two were finally putting their history to bed, for good, as a result.
7th January 2023: Selena reacts to claims that Hailey shaded her in a TikTok video, which Hailey publicly denies
OK, so it turns out the internet doesn't think this drama is over. Hailey, along with two friends – one of which was Kendall Jenner – goes viral in a video which shows the trio mouthing along to the words: "I'm not saying she deserved it, but I'm saying God's timing is always right."

Even though the video made no mention of Selena, it was around the same time she was being trolled on the internet, and it was deleted rather swiftly thereafter. When the video was brought to Selena's attention around a month later, she shut down any misgivings: “It's ok! I don't let these things get me down! Be nice to everyone! X,” Selena commented.
Hailey also commented on the above TikTok with, "I never comment on this type of thing but we were just having a girls' night and did a random TikTok found for fun. It's not directed at anyone."
23rd Feburary 2023: Selena defends Taylor Swift as old clip of Hailey shading Taylor resurfaces – and decides to take a break from social media
A video of Hailey apparently shading Selena's friend – Taylor Swift – resurfaced on TikTok, and Selena took to the comments to defend Taylor. “So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game," Selena writes.
In the clip we see Hailey pretend to gag when Taylor Swift and her latest album are mentioned. This happened around the same time that the duo was seemingly embroiled in more drama on the video-sharing app.

After Selena mentioned that she accidentally over-laminated her eyebrows, a few hours later Kylie Jenner took to the app to post a picture of herself with the words "This was an accident???" over her brows, followed by an image of Hayley Bieber's brows. This led fans to wonder whether some serious shade was being thrown towards Selena and her eyebrows. However, it appears that both Kylie and Selena have quashed any rumors, with Kylie saying, "This is reaching. No shade towards Selena ever and I didn't see her eyebrow posts! U guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly." "Agreed @kyliejenner It's all unnecessary. I'm a fan of Kylie!" Selena responded.
Whether it is because of these recent TikTok interactions or not, Selena just announced that she is taking another break from social media.
“I'm gonna be taking a second from social media cause this is a little silly and I’m 30. I’m too old for this. But I love you guys so much and I will see you guys sooner than later. I'm just going to have to take a break from everything,” she confirmed.
