It’s been a rollercoaster month for Song Ji Ah, the breakout star of the reality dating show Single’s Inferno.
From catapulting to social media fame thanks to her porcelain looks and charms, perceptions on the 24-year-old have quickly shifted after sharp-eyed Korean netizens accused her of wearing fake luxury items in the Netflix series, from brands like Dior and Chanel.
In particular, viewers highlighted a Chanel top worn by Ji Ah on the first episode of Single’s Inferno. The supposed knock-off on the YouTube personality is in a different color from the original, which is part of Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection. The brand’s logo on Ji Ah’s crewneck is also significantly thinner than what’s on the real item.
Aside from this, other netizens pointed out that Ji Ah has also worn fake jewelry for pictorials posted on her Instagram. In one image, she can be seen sporting a pendant from the French luxury line Van Cleef & Arpels. The chain on her pendant, however, is attached at a different angle when compared to the original photo from the brand’s website.
Ji Ah, who’s known for showing off the designer pieces she owns on her YouTube videos, admitted to the allegations on January 17 with a hand-written apology on her Instagram page. "Some of the comments currently being made about the fake designer products I wore on social media and on Single's Inferno are true. I'm really sorry," wrote the Netflix star. "I apologize once again for any situation caused by the infringement of the designers' creations and ignorance of copyright."
Ji Ah continued, "As a person with a dream of launching a brand, I will seriously recognize the controversy and reflect deeply…All content with exposed fakes has been deleted. I also apologize to the brands who were harmed because of me. I sincerely apologize to everyone, including the fans, subscribers, and brand representatives who have been hurt because of me. I will live more responsibly in the future. Thank you for reading this long note."
Single’s Inferno is currently on Netflix Philippines’ Top 10 list. You can now stream all eight episodes of the show on the streaming platform.
