Just last week, Slater Young was under fire for his controversial statement saying that it’s “normal” for men to *fantasize* and talk about other women in chat groups. According to him, “It’s just a fact of life that there are many other women more attractive” than your partner.

"Yung mga groups na nagse-send ng mga photos of girls and like fantasizing over it, it’s normal. We have a lot of chat groups with friends, not naman necessarily dedicated to that. It usually comes from two or three people na mahilig mag-send na ganyan. May mga comment comment paSyempre ikaw, as part of that group, sakyan mo lang," he said.

Netizens expressed their disappointment over Slater’s "toxic" mindset.

“Slater Young claimed it's normal for men to fantasize about women even though they're in a relationship. That's disappointingly normal, at least for men. However, we should abandon the idea that something is automatically right just because it is deemed normal by the majority or even just by men,” says one netizen.

“That promotes the culture of rape and objectifies women. This type of mentality shouldn't become the norm. We should reject it.”

In a recent podcast episode, Slater decided to address the issue.

"It’s been an eye-opening few days. Sometimes, you think that you did something okay, and then it takes a little while for it to sink in na oo nga no, mali pala talaga ako,” he says.

“I went as far as to say na kung sa group chat man may magse-send and wala kang magawa, sakyan mo na lang. Diniin ko pa siya na it’s very, very normal. That’s the word I used. Medyo feeling ko nasa bubble ako na hindi ko nakikita kung ano yung nakikita ng iba. I finally realized na, oh my God, I really made a mistake because I am giving it power to say it’s okay. Me saying it’s normal kind of normalizes it and makes it okay. The last thing in my mind and my heart would be to objectify women.”

Slater reveals that what he said made him feel *ashamed.* “When I read the articles, I don’t feel angry. I feel ashamed na parang naquo-quote ako ng ganyan. This is not me and I wish I could take it back. It’s shameful na Slater said this and I know for a fact that I said that. Nahiya talaga ako,” he adds.

“It’s a learning experience for me, especially given the platform that we have. It’s something to move forward and grow on. Kailangan mas malalim yung pag-intindi ko on how my words can have a lot of repercussions.”
