Okay royal fans, buckle your seat belts because I've got some pretty exciting news: You'll be getting even more Princess Diana content very soon (eek!) and it's all thanks to the upcoming movie Spencer. The movie, as you probably already guessed, gets its name from Princess Di's maiden name (you know, before she became a princess), and it will focus on a very short yet very important time in Diana's life that changed her life path entirely.
With a beautiful teaser trailer and photos already out in the world, this movie has me wanting to watch it, like, right now. Luckily, we now know that it is for sure set to release later this year! In the meantime, here's absolutely everything we know about Kristen Stewart's Spencer.
The movie hits theaters November 5.
The first poster for the movie was recently released, and it's seriously so breathtaking there are no words. Just witness:
The poster also gave the release date of the film, which will be November 5. Before that, a world premiere of the movie will happen in September at the Venice Film Festival, according to Variety.
The Spencer trailer is downright stunning.

Because we all want to know what else is happening in production, Neon Pictures decided to be nice to us and deliver a still image of Kristen in full costume.
Not only does she look amazing in the photo (can she please drop her skincare routine?), but what stands out is the pièce de résistance: the iconic sapphire engagement ring that now sits on Kate Middleton's finger. And let me tell you something—the sheer size of that rock is enough to make me stop writing this and run to the closest jeweler and get myself a replica.
The movie takes place over one very important weekend.
This isn't another rehashing of Diana's entire whirlwind life and tragic untimely death (although even if it were, I would still watch it). Instead, Spencer focuses on one very important December weekend in the early '90s, when Diana decided that her marriage to Charles was officially over.
We'll get to see Diana dealing with her empty relationship as well as her unbreakable love for her sons Prince William and Prince Harry, all over the course of three days during one of the last Christmases she spent with the British royal family at their Sandringham estate.
No, it won't be the same as The Crown.
If you loved the most recent season of The Crown then chances are you're going to love this movie, too. But don't worry, it won't be too similar. In fact, the movie's writer, Steven Knight (who also created Peaky Blinders, so you know he's good at British dramas) told Variety that he purposely didn't watch the new season of The Crown because he didn't want their telling of Diana's story to influence his own.
"Working on the script has been a pleasure. I think it's a different perspective on a story that we don't all know well, but we all feel we now are a part of it," he told Variety. "And I just found the whole thing fascinating. To talk to people who knew her and to try and get a view of this person—who this person really was—who was an ordinary person in extraordinary situations, is the way I think of her."
Yes, Kristen Stewart is playing Princess Diana.
Let's keep it real for a sec. K-Stew might not have been your first guess to play the iconic English princess, but TBH…she's kinda perfect for the role. I mean, who could relate more to being absolutely swarmed by paparazzi than Kristen, who got to experience that firsthand during her Twilight days? Like, there was a point in her life where she couldn't go anywhere without being hounded.
Neon, one of the production companies behind the upcoming movie, put out a first-look photo back in January 2021, and you guys, Kristen has absolutely nailed Princess Di's look. Like, I'm not even exaggerating when I say they could be twins.
There is one teeeeensy little problem Kristen might have though: She's American. And even though she's had some practice acting with a British accent from her role in Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen revealed to InStyle last year that mastering Diana's signature voice has taken a lot of work. "The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice and it's so, so distinct and particular," she told the publication. "I'm working on it now and already have my dialect coach."
But do not fret, because the movie's director Pablo Larraín is confident she'll crush it. "The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it's very beautiful to see," he said in an interview with Variety. "I think she's going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time. She is this force of nature."
Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins, and Sean Harris also signed on to star in the movie, so yeah, it's a great cast.
Jack Farthing is playing Prince Charles.
Cue the swooning fans, everyone—we officially have our Prince of Wales! Variety announced in March 2021 that Poldark star Jack Farthing is taking on the role of Diana's ex-husband.
If you're wondering where else you've seen his handsome face, Netflix fans might recognize him from last year's rom-com Love, Wedding, Repeat. So, yeah…he has familiarity with seemingly-doomed love stories.
