All this UAAP brouhaha makes us working girls miss our college days. What better way to relive our university heyday than by marching over to Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City to scope out the new generation of gorgeous guys?

Cosmo went to check out Katipunan’s stretch of restaurants, bars, and gaming shops that attract kids from as near as Ateneo, UP, and Miriam College to as far as UST, DLSU, and other major universities in the metro. We surveyed the spot, caught up with the hotties before their curfew, and asked them, “What’s the best thing about college?

Frii Spirit
Unit G4, G/F One Burgundy Plaza, 307 Katipunan Avenue

Scoping It Out: Frii Spirit was originally a Wii lounge for gaming addicts, where they can play motion-sensing games while lazing on big, comfy beanbags. But the owners have since thrown Playstation and Xbox into its repertoire to please hardcore gamers of other leanings. Round up your barkada and hole up in one of their private rooms, which you can rent by the hour.

Spotted: College boys whose idea of unwinding after school is rocking out on Guitar Hero or Rock Band or couples pummeling each other in Fight Night

Flaming Wings
318 Katipunan Avenue

Scoping It Out: It’s a cozy little diner that’s best known for their Buffalo Wings, which you can have with different sauces such as Mild n’ Sweet, Wild, and Smokey BBQ. A wining item on the menu is Wicked Oreos, where that ubiquitous cookie is smothered in batter and served with ice cream.

Spotted: Hungry college barkadas who seek nourishment after a day of theories and formulas

McDonald’s
Katipunan Avenue cor. Rosa Alvero St.

Scoping It Out: We know, we know. There’s a McDonald’s on every street corner. But aside from the McCafe tucked comfortably in a corner of the branch, what sets this one apart is the sheer volume of college studs who hang out here everyday for a variety of purposes. They come here to chat, enjoy a smoke outside, hold meetings, type away on their laptops, and in the wee hours, gorge on some fries after a night of boozing.

Spotted: College hotties of every shape and size doing a variety of things (as mentioned above)

Tia Maria’s Cantina
Katipunan Avenue cor. Rosa Alvero St.

Scoping It Out: This Mexican resto—with its cornucopia of quesadillas, nachos, fajitas, and burritos—is a popular choice for university students during lunch break. But come nighttime (or as soon as classes are over), barkadas troop to the al fresco hangout for the obligatory drinking sesh.

Spotted: Big, boisterous college groups, mostly males, who ruminate on their young existence over a bucket of beer or a pitcher of Zombie

Drews

Scoping It Out: This dark, nondescript, almost seedy enclave, although easy to miss, is the secret every college kid knows about. So what’s the big secret? The traydor alcoholic concoctions that have caused many a kolehiyala to regurgitate her dinner on the stairs.

Spotted: College barkadas even more boisterous than those at Cantina, not ruminating on anything in particular yet quite clearly laughing with inebriated mirth

The Meat Shop
75 Xavierville Ave.

Scoping It Out: Although technically it lies on Xavierville Avenue, a road perpendicular to Katipunan, The Meat Shop has the same heady atmosphere as other bars on the strip: cheap drinks, loud R&B music, and groups of young men enjoying their after-school poison. The place serves some mean barbecue and isaw that go well with beer, too.

Spotted: The Meat Shop attracts different college crowds, from white-clad nursing students to freewheeling foreign exchange students.
