One of our favorite Victoria’s Secret Angels, Romee Strijd, recently shared some good news on Instagram: Two years after she was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), she’s now expecting her first child with husband Laurens van Leeuwen.
On Instagram, Romee wrote a lengthy post about her journey to conceive. ICYDK, PCOS leads to hormonal imbalances, making it hard to conceive, among other side effects. (You can read our full guide on PCOS here.)
Romee shared that she was diagnosed with PCOS two years ago, and that she didn’t get her period for seven years. “I was devastated because being a mom and starting a family with @laurensvleeuwen is my biggest dream. I was so scared that I would never be able to because I got told it was harder to get babies in a natural way,” she shared.
The VS Angel revealed that she did her research and tried to understand her body and lifestyle more. She realized her body was under constant stress, saying: “I never felt mentally super stressed so it was hard to understand this, but my life consisted of traveling all the time (no biorhythm), working out every day, eating super clean (restricting foods). I think I pressured my body [too] much, and honestly everybody is so different but I think my weight was not good for my body to function properly and couldn’t handle the constant traveling.”
She went on to share the measures she took to take care of her body, specifically the lifestyle changes she took to take better care of herself, like lessening high-intensity workouts, having better eating habits, and even trying acupuncture. She ended her post saying: “To the women trying to conceive, believe in yourself and be nice for yourself and your body and don’t let those thoughts get to you [too] much.”
Congratulations, Romee!
If you experience any problems or irregularities with your period, we encourage you to please seek professional help from your OB-GYNE.
