Alden Richards only has the best wishes for his former love team Maine Mendoza, who is set to marry actor and lawmaker Arjo Atayde.
In an interview with PEP, Alden said he has reached out to the other half of the phenomenal AlDub, and that he sincerely only hopes for her happiness.
"And I’m very happy and sincerely na sinasabi ko yun sa kanya. I really wish her well. And sana, wherever she is now, I know that she’s very happy and for the longest time, she deserves that,” Alden tells PEP.ph during the mediacon of GMA-7's Battle of the Judges.
Alden acknowledges the immense impact that Maine has had on his life and describes their on-screen partnership, which lasted for years, as truly remarkable.
"Maine Mendoza has been a very huge part of my life. Hindi ko alam kung ganun din ako sa kanya, pero ako, that’s how I feel."
Alden also recalls how Maine set her goals, and that he is happy the actress and TV host is living her life the way she wants it to be,
"Now that she’s going to a path na talagang naikukuwento na niya sa akin na talagang gusto niya. Kasi si Maine, very planned ang buhay, very goal-oriented. By the age na ganito, ganito na dapat,” he says.
"So ngayon na nandiyan siya ngayon, of course, with Arjo, siguro yung naibibigay ni Arjo sa kanya is yung talagang love na deserve niya,” he adds.
The AlDub love team took the nation by storm from July 2015 to December 2016, winning the hearts of millions through the Kalyeserye segment on the show. Although Alden and Maine have since pursued individual paths, Alden's message conveys a sense of closure and acceptance, allowing both of them to move forward in their personal lives and careers.
Alden also reiterated that he and Maine did not have kids, contrary to persistent claims of fans who believed that the on-screen partnership was real.
“Sinagot ko po lahat ng speculations that if we’re married? We’re not married. Kung may anak man po kami? Wala po kaming anak, so on and so forth. I’m sure si Maine po has said her part as well. Ngayon, we can only explain so much,” he said.
Oh well. Here's to happier days for your respective lives and career, Alden and Maine!
