For anybody with a uterus, here’s one known fact: period cramps are the absolute wooorst. A rundown of what goes on inside a woman’s body: hormone-like compounds called prostaglandins make the uterus contract whenever one has her period to shed the uterine lining and keep the flow going. Those contractions result in pain, which depending on several factors, can mean absolute discomfort that simple movements aren’t even feasible.

In response to this health problem among women, several countries have expressed their concern and have given provisions for their female citizens in regards to menstruation–including Spain and South Korea, which both have period-positive policies for women.

In an effort to replicate the same support and eliminate the taboo around periods in the country, Gabriela Women’s Party filed House Bill 7758, granting menstrual leave of a maximum of two days per month with 100% daily remuneration to all female employees in the private and public sectors.
